Our 7" tile saw is on its last legs as I had the motor smelling up the basement pretty good a couple of days ago. I used it lightly yesterday but it is clear we are on borrowed time. This saw was bought in a pinch years ago when I had my home improvement business and I was doing a tile job until my old saw died on me. I had to get the job done that day as I was swamped so I went to the nearest home improvement center and grabbed the first decent looking one they had. Since then it was used for the business, loaned out many times to friends/family and then enjoyed its retirement cutting rocks. It doesn't owe me a thing. Have been thinking about a 10" tile saw for a while now as we have been getting larger rough as I prefer to break it down myself instead of buying crushed rock for tumbling that has clearly been picked through. Also like to get some slabs out of whatever material we are tumbling as well. Finally pulled the trigger today. The 7" maxed out at a 2" high cut, this one will do just under 3 1/2". This particular saw also has a plunge cut feature which allows it to operate similar to a chop saw. The blade can also be locked in at different height positions so that you can make multiple passes through tougher materials which helped a lot and should prolong blade life. A.J. testing it out: This will probably live outside for the summer so we did not bother putting on the side tables, splash guards, etc. I finished up with cutting some 6" plus material by rotating it through the blade, worked very well. This should hold us over until we can get a real lapidary saw in the 14"-16" range, unfortunately used equipment around here is a rarity. The only bad thing is that this really put a dent in the camera budget. Too many interests not enough money.

Nice saw! I have been looking at 14" slab saws for a couple weeks now. I have some "hidden" money that I may dip into. If I do you guys are welcome down here to do some cutting. Oh AJ will have to pet our dog, as he goes completely crazy over people.

Had a lot of fun yesterday, got it absolutely filthy. First few cuts were on a big chunk of Tiger Iron, between the Red Jasper and Hematite we broke it in right!
