Co-worker said I had to give tumbling a try. I bought a Chicago Electric from Harbor Freight to get in on the cheap.
He gave me some rock and grit and I just finished my first week of tumbling. It got really foamy which I haven't seem on the youtube vids I have watched. My coworker said he is not sure why it happened either. I am assuming it was junk rock (he had some old starter bags from old kits people had given him) and produced excess gasses???
Anyway, so far I am hooked and ready to go rock hounding if I can find a place nearby. Doesn't seem to be an rock shops in the Kansas City area.
See you around the tumbler, Steven

Welcome from Arizona. My wife does most of the tumbling so I don't know a lot, but I do know she avoids marble because it gasses off.

Welcome from Texas! I was alarmed the first time mine foamed as well but it's pretty normal and really nothing to worry about, have fun!

stevenzawicki There use to be three Rock shops in KC. For a quick hunt go to Clinton Lake in Missouri. Around the beach off hwy 52 there is Petrified wood and silica replaced coral. Also, I have not found a place to hunt them but around Knob Noster there are siderite concretions that have ferns in them. Good hunting!
