And I don't mean because it's totally freakin freezin here either, although we're in for frost again tonight. Not too bad, only about -25 below our normal night time temps. If it gets any colder, this rain will turn to snow. Anyway, the Christmas part is this. A very dear man who belongs to another forum that I frequent, wanted to help me get going and took it upon himself to find me a small tumber and have it sent to me. He wouldn't let me pay him back, he just wants me to go rock hunting for him and send him a bunch of quartz for him to cut. It arrived today and is a Chicago tumbler. It doesn't have any instructions with it, but I'm sure I can figure out the on-off switch. I'm just a bit curious about this little white plastic piece that's attached on one side. It doesn't do much but slide back and forth, like you could move it so the knob on the tumbler either sits on it or doesn't. Does anyone have one of these kind of tumbers? Can you tell me what the purpose of this is? Thanks, Cher

cher if its shaped like a U then it for the nut on the barrel lid to sit in so the barrel dosent walk to the other side and rub a grove in the bottom of the barrel

That little white piece of plastic is a guage to keep the lid of the tumbler from wearing on the steel. I would put the long end towards the bbl top, move it so it tightens the screw, in other words move it clockwise. It will not recquire any lubrication although it will get a flat spot. Good luck.

Cher, i have 3 working CE models running and one waiting for spare parts. they are cheap and cheerful, humble machines that require belts frequently among other replaceable parts........
as Doc very knowledgeably described, this a gage to keep the cheap barrel from grinding againt the cheap Chinese steel housing.
good luck and hope you get your Lortone soon!

LOL ok, I kind of figured that was the purpose but it moved so eash that I was curious. Are you telling me that I should order some spare belts well in advance of using the tumbler? Hope they are cheap. Cher
