All:
I promised my grandson if he held straight A's all year he could have a geode breaking party to celebrate. It looks like he held up his end of the bargain so I am looking to buy some geodes. Do ya'll have an sources you bought from before that have nice geodes? Im' trying not to buy blindly from a bad seller.
I did the Smithsonian break geodes box once before but they were small and all but one solid. While I know you cannot predict usually whats inside I have seen 90% hollow guarantees..
Thanks for any pointers, leads, suggestions

Can't help with the geodes, but congrats to your son on a job well done!

You could make a post in the buy, sell, trade page requesting if anyone here has any they feel would be hollow inside. I know there are various issues online vendors that sell them but I imagine they can’t guarantee good geodes.

Your best bet would probably be Morroccan Geodes. They tend to run mostly hollow, and easy to break, almost too easy as you can end up with several pieces from one round. They are reasonably priced. Easy to break and easily broken would be the key.
The classic Mexican Geodes, Choyas, are very expensive these days especially if you are looking for the hollow ones. The are not easy to break.
Google these two and see what you think.

Just type in the specific name (like some already mentioned) and see which ones fit inside your budget

I’ve tried several different ones with my kids and it was a pain trying to find decent ones to buy. The National Geographic were some of the worst because most were solid and the kids couldn’t even break them. I ordered some others from and Etsy seller and they were ugly and solid for the most part so I wouldn’t do that again. We got one box from Amazon that actually had decent quality and none were solid. I believe there were at least 2 or 3 different types included. I would have preferred ordering from a rock shop but these fit the budget better for something that the kids just wanted to break open themselves. That one can be found here: Break Your Own Geodes High Quality Kit 12 Whole Geodes www.amazon.com/dp/B003TUC6RS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_q6Zg92OEQvzCZ

Congratulations to your Grandson.
There are several listings for "Keokuk Geodes" on Ebay.
Good Luck

Thanks for the link on Amzn. I noticed it was sold by gemcenter USA which was a website I found. Will give them a closer look.

My mother has a store, and i have a geode cracker, and every couple years I order a lot of Crystal Canyon hollows from Gem Center USA. Unfortunately I don't have any right now. They have some very unusual and delicate crystal formations inside, though occassionally you get one mostly hollow and now and then, one full of mud. I can usually preserve most of the formations with the geode cracker, but thinking they might be destroyed unless judicious use of the hammer is employed.
Morroccan ones are likely to get you some very sparkly pieces, even if they don't break evenly. The crystals in them tend to be bright quartz.

I just wanted to thank all of you for your support and suggestions. I ordered some geodes for my grandson this evening. I ended up getting them from the gem shop. 5# of each Ojo de Sonora Geodes, Candy Geodes, Trancas Geodes and Sugar Geodes
