Lots of pet wood in that box. Are you thinking of trying to tumble? If so, much of that material is very finicky when it comes to tumbling. I'd either cut or leave be as a specimen...especially the rocks in photos 3 and 4. If you have any other material that looks the same (you do) I'd hold back on tumbling that material. That's just me.

A very nice box of rocks/pet wood. Agree that most AZ pet wood can be difficult. Has a tendency to fracture and break apart.

I'm thinking I'll wind up cutting, especially the rocks that are white w/agate inside (they must be agate nodules, just never seen white ones). The wood does look like it could be brittle (I've encountered this with some McDonald Ranch wood) and it's probably best cut in thicket slabs and then I don't know what. There are some pretty agatized wood pieces that would take a good polish, so I guess my answer is there is not one defined path but perhaps three.

jasoninsd or aDave, Do either of you know if this piece is pet wood? I can't decide if the "bubbly" side is bark and I cannot see rings on the other side.

jasoninsd or aDave , Do either of you know if this piece is pet wood? I can't decide if the "bubbly" side is bark and I cannot see rings on the other side. I'm sorry, but I can't help. It's hard to tell from that photo, and I'm not great at ID. That "bubbly" portion you refer to might actually be matrix that the rock was embedded in, but again it's hard to tell from the photo. I can say that I've never seen bark that was bubbly in appearance. It usually looks like bark. That's my limited experience.

I don't know how I missed you tagging me on this! For the record...I'm the WORST on the forum for being right with identification! LOL (I'm learning though...just really slowly! LOL) I can recognize petrified wood if it "looks" like wood...that being said, I really don't know on this one...sorry JR. Again, sorry I missed your tag...I didn't ignore you purposely. Edited to add: as far as cabbing...we ALL started somewhere...and at some point in time we were all newbies.
