That's really crappy. To me, museums are like churches and should be respected.

I think this type of thing is going to keep happening and will increase exponentially. I believe that due to MOST places being in desperate need for law enforcement, crimes like this will take a back-seat for other violent crimes which will occupy the current staffing. I don't believe most places will be able to increase their staffing, and they will continue to decline in their number of people qualified for the job. Just my thoughts...
(I hope that wasn't a "cave" type response...)

(I hope that wasn't a "cave" type response...) I don't think so. It's pretty well known that in a lot of areas, the Police are stretched pretty thin. And, some localities are admitting that they will not respond to theft and such. So, no, I don't think that belongs in the Cave. It's just the times we live in.

jasoninsd -- yeah, that's a sticky wicket, and (without making this cave-worthy ) I'll just say that I can see both sides of that argument. We need more law wnforcement, but without the abuses that sometimes occur. Like anything else involving humans, that will be a delicate balance. rockjunquie -- yup, museum thefts seem especially egregious, since they deprive many of historically significant items. This is especially true, if (god forbid) the items are melted down and sold as "just" gold.

What a shame. People can be such jerks.
Makes me think that when (if) I eventually set up my coprolite museum I should put some radioactive coprolites out as bait for any potential thieves. Gives new meaning to hot shiit.
