Last fall my daughter got our Doxie puppy from a local gal who has a couple pets she breed. This dog is amazing. So amazing that we decided we wanted a second one. We contacted her and she had gotten a new female chocolate dapple that was going to take the place of one of her mom's she was retiring (please no attacks as I have visited her home and been welcomed by all of her wonderful pet dogs, seen where they live, spent time with them and the family and have 100% confidence in the integrity of this family). We fell in love with her new girl and let her know we would gladly waiting the year (or more) for her first litter to be born. We have been patiently waiting for her to reach her second heat (should be soon) when we get a call out of the blue from the breeder. Would we be interested in taking on this new dog? It turns out that the new dog (Hazel) Hates here next door neighbor. She growls and barks at him, and gets very protective of the kids when he stops over (all of her dogs avoid this man, but Hazel actually gets between him and the family and barks and growls like crazy when he is around). Now the breeder wants to stay on good terms with this man as they are neighbors, and he owns the land on one side and behind them. He has complained to them a few times about the barking, and has threatened to call the police if the dog ever goes after him (he is a little off and the dogs pick up on it). Of course they don't want trouble and have tried every thing they can think of (short of moving) but Hazel just won't come around. We took our Oreo over there today to meet (well actually re-meet as he had played with her when he was a week pup). It went splendid, and Hazel warmed up to us right away. Tomorrow we get to pick her up and we will be a 2 Doxie household. My wife is so happy as she so loved this dog. Here is a picture of Hazel (chocolate dapple) and our Oreo (piebald dapple) playing as puppies. Hazel is about 5 months older then Oreo but he is now slightly bigger. SOrry for the long run on story, but here is 2 puppies playing to make it worth while!

They are adorable! My Aunt and Uncle breed doxies. They had a blue Merle that I absolutely loved.

"SOrry for the long run on story, but here is 2 puppies playing to make it worth while!" Well, it definitely made it worth it! LOL Those two are adorable! - I'll agree with what others have said...everything happens for a reason. It's too bad the breeder has the issue with the neighbor, but you got a new family member because of it.

Today we pick her up! Breeder getting her shots up to date (she is due next month, but said she was getting them done now as she feels so bad about having to re-home her). Lots of pictures to come.

They are adorable! My Aunt and Uncle breed doxies. They had a blue Merle that I absolutely loved. We love the Blue Merles. Oreo is kinda like that. He was the first piebald dapple she has ever had in 3 years working with this particular set of parents. The same set had another one this last litter. We actually made a deal with the breeder last night to allow her to breed our Hazel one time, as she needs a new stud as her current boy is retiring and going to be fixed next spring (she was heartbroken when we first said we were going to spa Hazel right away, but we thought about it long and hard and decided one litter would make life even more interesting lol). And no she is not related to the current stud dog (she actually came from out of state to replace one of the retired females). We had decided when we got Oreo that we really wanted 3 Doxies (cause 1 is not enough?) SO hopefully Hazel will have at least 2 pups (one being male) and we will keep 1.

There's probably more to the story about the neighbour. I bet he hurt the dog when nobody was looking. I had a lab growing up who hated anybody in uniform. We figured it out when a certain mailman showed up and for no reason gave the dog a squirt of "something" (probably pepper).

Congrats on the new family member. Both of them are cuties!
Doxies seem to do much better when they have a four-legged friend. I know this is true of most dogs and cats, as they are social, but Doxies are kind of high-strung, so I find it especially true.
