I was going to wait until we had been notified officially by Feather River LMS before posting this but I did not want to let the moment pass. Being our first year I'm not sure if they send a letter, email, etc. If it wasn't for Chuck's Drummond Island Rocks post we still would not know the results. So here goes, a very sincere thanks to all that make this place what it is. While I will refrain in most part from naming names, as I am sure to leave people out, there are three that have to be mentioned. The biggest of thanks to aDave , rockjunquie and Tommy (and anybody else that helps behind the scenes) for everything you do to keep the forum going. Managing the technical, administrative, financial, etc. aspects are easy for all of us to take for granted but it is truly appreciated. I also want to thank the past and present members here for inspiring us to be better. In our neck of the woods there is minimal interest in lapidary. No clubs, no rock shops, etc. Most of the polished rocks I had seen before starting in the hobby were in gift shops. At the time I thought they were pretty nice, I now know so much better can be achieved. Special thanks to those that spend the time to take nicer pictures to show what is possible and giving us something to strive for. Frankly this is an area that I have failed in and hope to get better at in the coming year. It's frustrating to look at nicely polished rocks in front of you and see them poorly represented online. Another special thanks goes to the experimenters of the group for expanding the knowledge base and pushing boundaries. I've never been one to follow someone else's recipe (in cooking and now in tumbling) but try to absorb as much theory as possible. What is the purpose of adding that ingredient, why this and not that? So many great discussions prove there are many ways to achieve great results. In addition to all of the thank yous, I'd like to take a brief soapbox moment . One of the greatest aspects of the forum is that it is an incredible knowledge repository with many years of threads/posts. If you limit yourself to only the present day threads you are really missing out. It is so easy for a beginner to get frustrated no matter what areas of the hobby you are interested in. One only has to go back and see that those who are currently considered masters were once beginners with the same questions they have. I get the impression sometimes that the past threads get ignored here and that is a shame. Okay, I'm done. Finally, thank you to all the members. What an interestingly eclectic group of people. I thoroughly enjoy my interactions with you whether we are talking about rocks, music, photography...........I've had the pleasure of meeting some really fine folks here, can't ask for much more than that. Al

Very nice acceptance speech. I'm sure everyone here appreciates it. RTH really is a special place. In a twitter, FB, IG world, it's nice to have our own community.

Congratulations Al, and well said! I am pretty new to the forum and relatively new to the craft, but I have to say that RTH has been my greatest resource since discovering it, years of information at your fingertips!
Not to mention the people here are pretty awesome!

Al Al, thanks for the kind mention and congratulations on your results. Admittedly, I've been more behind the scenes lately as opposed to being an active participant, but family issues have really taken a toll on my time here on the board. I get here most every day, and it's folks like you and other members who make our work easy. Best to you and your family.

Congratulations again for your win! And I could agree more about going back through he threads. Even the ones that we can't see pictures sometimes have some good advice! So true Ali. It can be disappointing getting excited due to the subject matter of a thread only to see the pictures have disappeared, but so many are still worth reading. Honestly I am amazed at the amount of threads that have been able to be restored.
