It's been a month since I checked in on this thread and I'm very disappointed along with you all on the quality of the material but I do hope that those who got some decent pieces will be able to send in some nice pieces and win the contest.
When I posted the picture on page 1 guessing what the material would look like, I meant the AGATES mixed in the picture not the basalt and crap rocks. That area where they collected this is heavily strewn with chunks of agate over a vast area to the point where you literally can not walk in any direction without stepping on them. I am not even slightly exaggerating when I say that one could walk that area for an hour and pick up a hundred pounds of pieces that look very similar to each other for contest equality purposes. It's crap agate for sure but my point is sending out 30+ bags of very similar looking agate pieces would not be a difficult task if a bit of time was invested in it. Some of your groups of rocks don't even look like they came from the same area.

I'm going to contact Feather River Lapidary & Mineral Society. I don't expect it to do much good, but at least they will know and maybe make changes next time. I don't understand the mindset of not saying anything.

I don't understand the mindset of not saying anything. It can't hurt. I don't want to air specifics again - I posted about it several years ago in the WT contest thread - but my experience with the FR club was very "challenging" to say they least. Old clubs like theirs seem to become very set in their ways and unwilling to budge.

I like your black rock AND the wormy centipede creatures. Close up, very interesting.

Cool stuff quartzilla! Mine are like that too I think. I just moved 3/4 of my rocks on to the 120/220 (finally) today. This year is definitely a tough one, but I'm glad to be in on it.

Well doing a clean out on these (they are taking forever but starting to look like something) I found something strange on a couple of the stones. Are fossils known to be found in the Lahonton Lake agate area? These look like little worm or bug fossils but I’m only seeing them in the black stones. Anyone else have these turning up in their black contest stones? This is really neat! I looked through my batch but didn't find any like this, unfortunately.

I'm pretty happy with how mine are turning out so far, but we'll see what happens in polish... No fossils or "agates" in my bunch though.

Mine just got out of maybe two weeks in 220 with weekly recharges. They were burnished for about 18 hours so that's why they're shiny. Here they are, in all their glory : IMG_20220423_105412167 by Perkins17, on Flickr They looked like this before the about 24 hours of work I put into them so far: IMG_20220113_080759474 by Perkins17, on Flickr They are now in 500 aluminum oxide with about 1/2 ceramics in the 3 lb Lortone and will be moving on to tripoli in a few weeks. Man this contest has been a lot of work! Anyway, thanks for looking! I'm interested in seeing where everyone else is at in the tumbling process.

I only have a few ready to move on. All the good (?) ones are still rolling in course. About 1 or 2 are coming out ready to move on each week. Clean out tomorrow, I’ll see what’s ready to move on. Should be at least a couple.

Should be at least a couple. Yeah, I've got a couple in coarse still too. I have my clean outs on Friday or Saturday if I can help it. Some that are in coarse will never be ready. I need to order a new lid liner for one of my barrels. It wore through in the middle.

Ok several came out today and are ready for stage 2. I think I have about 6 or 7 left still in course rolling with a bunch of Swali agates. I’m going to keep the entire batch together when going to the next stage so the ones that are ready are sitting in a solo cup filled with water.

So I have read all yalls posts, are yall saying i can expect to get three pounds of coprolite??? Kind of, yeah. The stuff isn't worth $35 unless you are gonna win for sure.

So I have read all yalls posts, are yall saying i can expect to get three pounds of coprolite??? Some people have received one or more neat rocks in their batch; worm-like fossils or interesting colors. That said, I definitely would have preferred coprolite! Coprolite is cool!
