Lol! I'll get there. My response to that is "challenge excepted"! Ha. I'm off for the next 2(?) Weeks so I'll be freezing (oh, I meant cabbing) a lot. I can't wait to see your wraps. You might be getting lots of annoying questions from me soon. I think I'll order some wire. Thanks for the eye candy jasoninsd! They won't be annoying...they'll probably be the same questions I asked when I started. We'll see if I can remember the answers! LOL

Holy that's some work done. I can't see where your extra set of arms is in any of the pictures I've seen of you but you must have one.

"Kingsley North Cabber 6 Nova is now setup and ready to go...and I'll post some pics of the first cabs I finished today in the cabochon forum here in a little bit." It's been almost a year now. How do you like your Kingsley North still? How much do you use it? I'm currently researching machines.

I do like it very much. It's my first cabbing machine, so I have no other machine to compare it with...but I'm seemingly able to get some pretty decent results with it. I think the biggest plus that sold me on this machine was the spacing of the wheels. There's no other 6" machine (that I know of) that has this much spacing between the wheels. This has come in VERY handy as I like to work cabs on the edges of the wheels as well as the center. How I work them wouldn't be able to be done on any other machine with tight spacing...

I’ve been comparing machines and I keep zooming in on pics trying to estimate the wheel spacing. I’m leaning towards the Kingsley North with the Genie a close 2nd. I’ve only ever used a Genie and know it’s a solid machine but I like the spacing of the KN wheels and the all stainless steel construction along with a few other benefits. Thanks for the welcome. I stumbled into this forum during my searches. Not sure if I’m doing it right. I guess I hit “quote” in order to reply to someone? 🤷♀️

The other way to get someone's attention is to "tag" them. You put a @ before their username. Hover your cursor over someone's screen name and it will show you what their username is. Sometimes it might be different than their screen name...but usually it's the same. There are some minor quirks to the machine. Mine did leak around some of the side and top panels. If you decide to go with the KN, make sure you tell them you want gaskets for the sides and the top sent with the machine. liveoak (Patty) had a great way to keep the water pump from running...she also has the KNC6.

I love my KN 6" cabber !
I got mine for Christmas last year, but I'll say that Jason has WAY more time on his than I do.
First I have to ask jasoninsd about the gaskets ? Leaking on top & sides ?
That was new to me & has me curious.
I'm happy to give my review
Overall it's a nice machine. I never used a cabber before I got this one, so no comparison here either.
I started with a old Craftsman flat lap & the difference for me with cabbing was night & day.
My KN 6" was with KN wheels, the price point was too much higher for me to justify anything else.
I will say that I had my 3000 wheel go bad (peeling off) and had to replace it only after a short time of owning the machine.
KN would not honor the wheels. I replaced it with a Johnson Brothers wheel & I like them a lot.
The SS construction was a selling point for me, as well as 2 ends laps.
I've now equipped my left end lap for grinding backs of cabs & the right end lab for fine polishing work. It's nice to have it all in one unit.
Mine leaks a little at the back - I still haven't figured out if it's just the hose connections ? I just keep a towel handy- it's not that bad. But I don't think I'd set it up on a bare wood table.
I purchased a stainless steel kitchen table inexpensively & that works great with a lower shelf & room for buckets.
We made a couple of modifications to mine-
rewiring the motor so the pump goes on and off with the machine.
Also found some mister nozzles for the 2 end labs to control water flow better.
One selling point to me, and Michigan Rocks video sold me on it too, was that it is not messy.
I have mine in my indoor jewelry studio & a wet mess would not have worked.
Would I buy it again- definitely - but I'd still likely buy it with the KN wheels.
If you end up getting one, I'm happy to share my upgrade info khara Oh- and welcome to the forum

Patty, thanks for taking the time to chime in on this for khara! (I was too tired lazy last night to go into depth with what you had done! LOL) Okay...so I believe I figured out what's causing the leaking. The wheels are spitting/spinning water against the top and back of the unit (inside). I had gone back and forth with KN about the issue (way back when). Because the top fits down over the sides of the unit, it allows for water to leak out along the back of the unit. The LONG term solution would be to fabricate the back and the sides with a 1/2" (1/4" might work) "L" channel so the lid fits to the INSIDE of the back and side walls. That way the water would "leak" back to the inside of the unit. Since they're not likely going to to do that (although I think it would be an EASY fabrication fix!), KN came up with some foam gaskets that fit over the top edge of the sidewalls and back of the unit. You might want to contact them and see if they are making them available. They still don't have a solution for the water leaking/seeping out of the bottom of the sides (the removable plates)...but that leakage is minimal for me.

Huh jasoninsd, interesting , maybe that's where my water is coming from after all. Have to investigate that.
I don't have any noticeable leaking issue on the sides by the remove able plates, but definitely water in the back. I hadn't considered it leaking from the top.
I'll call KN on Monday and find out about the foam gaskets.
If they aren't selling them, I'll have to see about coming up with something.
Thanks for the info.

I figured it out due to the "trails" of water on the back of the unit all being in line with the wheel placement...just take a look at the back of the unit. I wouldn't expect they'd be for sale...I would consider it a "recall" fix that should be done for free...but that's just the way I think about it. LOL If they give you the runaround (which I don't think they will) let me know, I'll pop the top off the machine and take pics of the gaskets. I just don't want to remove the top if I don't have to! LOL

Thanks both of you for all the info! I remember reading someone else talking about the leakage and gasket add-on as well but I wouldn’t have thought to ask for it up front so I’ll add that to my list here. (Ya sorta seems they should just be included now.) And Patty I saw your other post earlier about the side water and think that’s a great idea. I actually noticed on someone’s video that it seemed like it was just a huge stream of water pouring out so seeing you talk about that upgrade makes total sense. I hadn’t thought about dirty vs clean machines. I don’t think I’d describe the Genie as clean. I remember it being pretty spitty. I like that this machine has the ability to have a lap on both the left and right sides. I don’t believe the Genie can do that(?) if I remember right. It’s been a while. It’s nice that some different options could be set up and interchanged for different polishing compounds. I’m having to re-remember everything as I’ve been away from the hobby for over 10 years but I never did have a cabbing machine, just an Inland flat lap. Thanks again for your help, both of you!

jasoninsd , Thank you, Thank you, Thank you ! I fixed my leaking problem yesterday - now that you told me how it was leaking & the easy fix ! In my own defense I will say that you likely have cabbed 100-200 cabs to my 1-2 so you've had a lot more time & water going through your machine. But yesterday sure enough when I looked around the back, by the wall, you could see the water running down.
Looked like it needed gutters for goodness sake.
So I had some 1/8" foam sticky back air conditioner gasket handy on the shelf, ( doesn't everyone) and put a piece of it on the back ledge, under the hood. My foam was 1" wide, so I had to punch holes for the screws, otherwise easy peezy
I thought I'd share another thing I do regularly when I'm using the wheels on either end, I clamp a piece of plexiglass to the end of the housing, to catch the spray. That helps a lot in keeping any water going out the ends.
When I use my end laps I do some plexiglass thing as well, as the spritzers definitely changed the water flow- but you can't eliminate the spray off the pad completely.
Thank you again Jason.
And khara, hope you'll stick around and show us your cabs once you get your machine up and running

liveoak - SWEET! The gaskets KN had sent me were more like a "U" channel that fit over the top edge of the sides and back. It looks like yours oughta work though! Sometimes we work with what we got! I had to chuckle at the cab "ratio"...and I do have to say your 1-2 cabs are fantastic!

The flat foam seemed to work perfectly, and heck it was on the property & I didn't even have to call and whine at KN.
A win win.
Thanks for the leak diagnosis.
Problem solved.

For sure I will, thanks! I have a ton of pre-forms already made. Never finished them as the flat lap really is quite time consuming. I think I could spend 8 hours on a single cab. Ugh! Oh, and if it came un-dopped, add another hour for searching the garage for it. Great starter machine for grinding and polishing some faces but trying to make cabs is definitely tedious! Without the proper tools it does take some of the fun out of it. I appreciate all of your DIY tips regarding improvements to your setup. Years ago I made my own soft surface disks for my flat lap by cutting out plexiglass circles and attaching a thin rubber and then 3M sanding paper. These round soft disks that are available today weren’t around then, or at least not that I knew of. It’s good to make these tools “ours” with any modifications we deem useful!

khara I also started with an old Craftsman flat lap and to tell you the truth I almost always felt like I was wasting my time for the amount of usable cabs I produced. The KN cabber change it night & day for me.
Ha & I did the same thing with foam & sandpaper
I agree that it's part of the fun to modify things to make them work better.
One of the things that I like about this forum is that it's active & people are very generous with their knowledge, and sharing tips etc.
It's help encourage me to keep at things.

I agree, the time to output ratio was off. It was a lot of back and neck pain for just a single cab. I welcome a night and day difference!
