Took a hike to some local hot springs. Things have changed so much since the last time I was down there. Went further than usual though and visited a neat cave full of hot water and some interesting cave formations. Sorry for the poor quality of the cave videos. Between the low light and steam it made taking videos difficult.

What a surreal place...otherworldly in fact. This could've been in one of the original Star Trek episodes and people would have believed it to be another planet! Thanks for taking us on the journey with you!

That is so cool. I didn't know there were hot springs in NV. How far from Vegas is it?
The last two pictures look like there is purple in those minerals. Is that a play of light or really purple?

That is beautiful James. Is that in Nevada? Yes, there are hot springs all over Nevada. This one though is just outside of Las Vegas. Major work out reaching it though. I am still super sore from the hike.

There are hundreds of hot springs all throughout Nevada. We even have several geothermal power plants in Nevada. If you look at a topographical map for Southern Nevada you will see the area is speckled with hot springs. Most are pretty small though. This particular one though is just outside of Las Vegas.
Some of the springs do contain a brain eating amoeba so it is a good idea not to submerge your head in the waters unless you know the spring does not have the amoeba.
That was actually purple. Most likely from manganese staining. Manganese is very common in the area. It is major part of the desert varnish that covers so many or our rocks.
There are amethyst deposits nearby as well, but this appears to be stained calcifications instead.

Thanks for all the info! Once again, I learn something new every day.
