RWA3006 The coprolite is brightening the lives of many. A good friend of mine recently had a birthday. She has two young sons who are into rocks, fossils and geology. I gave her a bag of rocks/fossils. Her sons loved the coprolite. The older one is now researching SE Utah Hadrosaur. He wants to go there this Summer and wonders if any fossil beds of dino bones and coprolite are open to the public. He does not need to collect, just explore. He is 14 years old and his Mom (my friend) would accompany him. Collecting a few pieces of coprolite would be a bonus to him. Him and his Mom were planning a trip to AZ, so a side trip to Utah is within reason. She encourages her sons to explore things like this. Beth, you can direct these folk to page 83 in the coprolite thread for directions where to go for coprolite hunting. It usually works well to stay at the Whispering Sands motel at Hanksville to explore the area. I don't know if I mentioned this before, but you just reminded me. My granddaughter was taking a college class about dinosaurs and archeology, which loved BTW. They spend a bit of time on coprolites. Gave me a good excuse to talk rocks with her. Anyway, I directed her to your thread and she told her professor about it. I know that they checked it out, but I don't have any feedback. Your thread is a real gem- stone.

I am sharing the RTH Coprolite thread with many people. I love that people can access RTH threads who are not RTH members.

Sharing a photo of what I am sending out today for the Rockhounding 4 Homebound Traveling Rock Box. I will be adding some filler material on the top and an empty piece of cardboard between the slabs and side of box. Will also have a printed list of guidelines/requests on top of contents. So many R 4 H members are very excited about participating in this. I learned a lot from participating in the RTH Traveling Rock Boxes. All of the bags containing rocks have a label taped to the inside of the bag. Delicate things, jewelry findings, cabochons, pre-forms, etc., are in small zip bags in a box. I put 3 smaller boxes in the MFRB. I just hope this is a success and brings joy to many.

Helps give each piece a little life.

Helps give each piece a little life. Many in the R 4 H group are trying to get a rock from each state. For them, just where it is from is more important that what specific type of rock it is. Some homebound children are now researching rocks. Where they are from and how they were formed. I had one child write me and say how awesome it was that she could hold a piece of Dino Poo and a piece of lava. They went on to tell me the research they did on the rocks and had some questions. Back when I was a 4-H project leader I always had to stay one step ahead of my students. 20 years later I am doing the same, but with homebound children who love rocks/fossils. I love doing this and am also distributing some ID guides and rock tumbling guides. I always refer those who want more info on something to the RTH web forum, as it is the bestest place to get info. Well, other than Shawn at The Rockshed if it is an equipment related question.

Update. The R 4 H group now has 2 traveling rock boxes. I am coordinating one of them. We are also starting a silent auction today to raise $ to help members with postage. Many members would like to send some rock love to others, but cannot afford postage. The first silent auction contains some cabochons I received from RTH peoples, some cabs I purchased, were given a couple and some I won. There are a couple pieces of jamesp glass. There are also some polished flats and cabs I made. We have a member with a terminal illness. He is sending a portion of his rock collection to members. Has almost 100 packages to send. He has sent out about 50 packages so far. 50% of the auction proceeds will be going to him for postage to send some more boxes. 50% will go to others. He can only send packages via the USPS. Some items are very fragile and must be sent in SFRB’s. Postage costs are huge.

It's free to sign up and you get a big discount on postage. I always use it. He just needs a printer.

I discussed this with him. He does not have a printer or scale. We decided the time, effort and $ involved was not worth it. He does not want to purchase the needed things 4-5 months before he dies, nor does he have the $ to do so.
I have been using Pirate Ship and it is great.

I'll do my best to pick rocks for your group when I go get my saw. I think I'll be covering 7 or so states.

RTH is awesome.
Just sharing how much joy members here have spread.
I have sent out 10 boxes to group members. Currently have a silent auction with choice of lots for the winning bidder. Most of the items I had purchased from members here, but included some I was given for the R 4 H group. Put some items that RTH members had given me in a traveling rock box. I had purchased many of the items in the box from RTH members.
The Rockhounding 4 Homebound group has some current needs.
Postage costs for members to send rocks to others. Some members who share with others can only do USPS boxes. They cannot do Pirate Ship or other reduced postage pages. They have plenty of rocks to share, but limited income.
Prayers and good thoughts to be sent to Letty and her son, Jason. He is in the hospital. Had a turn for the worse. If anyone is interested in sending cards to him/her, let me know. He was the inspiration for the R 4 H group. I sent him a box of cool stuff that he loved. Some of it was from RTH members. He especially liked the “dino poo”, as did his care givers.
Anyways, thank you RTH members for supporting those who love rocks and are unable to collect them.
