I'm done with mine but I'm seriously frustrated with my inability to photograph it in a presentable manner and have given up for now. Gawd how I miss my old S7 phone camera

OK, here are the two I marked on the slab that came off of this chunk that is in the saw! I should have not shown the wife these, now she wants a pair like the small one for ear rings! When will I ever learn!! I know for a fact that the pics don’t even come remotely close to showing the details in those cabs. Photograph them on a black backstop and that gold will really shine. Nice cabs

realrockhound Here ya go! I phot4ographed the original photo of the cabs on a slab of Golden Oak to show more of what the material looks like, I had thought about doing in on just black like these.

Which one are you leaning towards as your contest submission? Someday someone will pick "pair" as their theme but not yet

So as I posted earlier, I decided to go with this piece of Yellowstone River wood. When I whacked the ends off it was mostly black inside so I turned it parallel to the blade and trimmed off a slice of the rind. I love a good rind cut but this exceeded my expectations as I actually hit an area of transparent agate just below the surface. My only wish is that I could have photographed it well enough to show it as it actually looks in person. The black inside has a really cool almost herringbone pattern that reminds me of a burnt timber if you know what I mean. This pattern translated into the cabochon but it's not quite as easy to see. The preform. Again, I wish the transparent agate area right in the center of the dome was able to be seen. It looks very cool in person. The cab turned out large and thick - maybe thicker than most cabs I've ever done but I wasn't willing to sacrifice the dome height one little bit and risk losing the agate so it's got a mongo-thick girdle.

Sorry there's no sound to this. I'll tell you what he said... "Mongo...gamunth sherbaflab" Translated: "Mongo likes Tommy's cab!"

Since I need to chose which cab to enter, I will go with the smaller of the two. I was thinking more of the material than I was of a single cab.

This is my second wood cab for this contest. The first was finished and ready for the camera when a little careless handling by doofus resulted in two pieces. After my foul mood finally dissipated, I started fresh from the same Opalized Wood — and here's the result:

Gary that is a spectacular example of a "woody" petrified wood piece! Gorgeous cab showing amazing grain pattern! I was going to post pics of mine tonight...but now I'm going to wait! LOL

perkins17 - That looks like some pretty amazing looking material Perk! The shape of the cab looks really good too! Just throwing this out there, but you might want to try and get a couple better pictures...they are kinda blurry.

That'll be my project for tomorrow. jasoninsd, I finally got new pictures, thank you for the suggestion.
