My family found these fossils in a creek just outside of Austin Texas: CTX Marine FossilsWe were looking for stones to tumble, and came across a bunch of these. We found about 60 pounds of fossils. They ranged in size from the size of a penny to the size of a clenched fist. Couldn't figure out how to insert the images, so I hope the link works! Cheers Dillon

Yeah we had 2 small buckets and a back pack full, and we barely made a dent in what was in the creek bed. We weighed them on our bathroom scale, because it was so heavy we had to know how much we carried out. The creek had a large limestone cliff on one side - I think all of them are falling out of the cliff side as it erodes??

Welcome to RTH dillonf . Nice fossils. Texas is a goldmine for rock collectors. Lucky you ! Can you tell me the name/manufacturer of this camping rig you bought for your FJ ? Hi Jamesp The awning is Overland Vehicle Systems Nomadic 270 LT (passenger side) awning. WeblinkLT is the smaller model - nice size for an FJ. In my experience OVS is a great company that backs their products and has real good customer service!

I will look into the OVS system. Is your FJ a bit noisy ? Engine/exhaust type noise.

I have an old 2006 Titan I keep duct taped together for daily driving . Ours doesn't make loud engine/exhaust noises in my opinion, but I've been driving trucks for the past 10 or so years. We can get some wind noise with the roof rack on highways, so we just turn up the radio . . . The OVS are a little pricey, but worth it! You just open it and it is self-standing unless there are high winds. I have never had to use the poles or tie downs yet - I've seen guys spending 30-40 minutes setting up their awning while I just open mine up and attach one cinch strap (I am done in less than 5 minutes). The convenience and quality build is worth it in my opinion. If you want it for rain I would look into the larger model, but the LT is perfect for shade - the main reason I use it here in Texas. Cheers,Dillon

Thanks for the reply dillonf. We had a 92 4wd SR5, 2000 Tundra 4wd. Each for over 15 years and 400,000 miles. Great reliable functional vehicles. For off-roading the FJ has more appropriate suspension and drive options than the stiffly sprung trucks. The FJ is a true go-anywhere vehicle and a pleasure to drive. It goes where the treasures are ! Nice fossil take. Texas is an el primo rock/fossil collecting state. You are fortunate to live there. I may look into a small off-road pull behind camper or mount the system you installed. Thanks again for the info. My nephew's 2012 SR5 has same engine and it makes similar engine/exhaust sounds as the FJ.
