We got this awhile back when J2B2 closed their doors and sold everything. We got some of this. Barbara had it labeled as "Volcano", but I believe we have also seen it sold as Cherry Orchard. Is it some kind of quartz pudding stone, or manmade? I was going to add a poll, but can't find the way to do it, if there is one.

The Cherry Orchard Agate I have and have seen does not have cobbles of diorite and/or granite in it.

Looks like a real material to me, a conglomerate sealed with some kind of quartzy material, maybe even chalcedony. We find similar stuff here in the Texas Rio Grande gravel except the sealing material is usually more of a yellow or reddish moss agate. Not the "cherry orchard" I am used to seeing which is a red breccia in a greenish chalcedony base.

1dave I looked for it and can't find it. I think I have my answer anyway. There was no sign of bubbles or the edge of a container it would have been formed in, it looks like it was broken out of a massive quartz pocket. The diverse variety of stuff that is dispersed in it is what has me puzzled, especially the metallic stuff that is granular almost like what you get from machining cast iron or brittle non ferrous alloys, aka floor sweepings. I'll attempt a decent still photo today. I have about 20# I found in a bucket and I'm slabbing it all so it will stay together, may attempt a cab from a slabette tuday, but if the quartz is fully into the cobble pudding it may be perfect for FOG knapping. What do you think orrum and jamesp should I dig out my knapping tool bucket and see if I can cut myself? It's been awhile.

I think it has to be YOUR first post in the thread. When I made the OP I only had the cloudinary button. I'll look to see if maybe it's in my user settings,

I'm not the best for ID's...but I'd bet my last dollar on that being African Bloodstone. I cut some slabs for a guy who said what he had was Bloodstone. One piece was actual Bloodstone, the other (after some research) turned out to be African Bloodstone. Spittin' image of what you've got here... There's a cab I made from it in this thread: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/97451/crappy-day-went-blood

Can't help you with the ID, but I saw your comment about J2B2. We used to buy rough from them.
Seemed like good people when we'd talk with them in Quartzsite. I'll bet that was a helluva' going out of business sale.

They were about a 90 minute drive south of us in the NW, they would host amazing rock sale events for the clubs, Bruce and Barb were the best. Then Bruce got cancer, survived it, but the treatments did something to his brain that triggered a form of dimensia. Going down there was bitter sweet, helping Barb out and getting some nice material and saying goodbye to them. Bruce didn't remember what any of the materials were. Best thing that happened was when John Cooke went in and bought everything so they could get on with their lives. jasoninsd you are 100% correct sir, that's what it is. Thank you. When it was being sold, as I said, no one was there to verify several mystery rocks we got. It was in a large pallet bin that was labeled as "volcano" from China. My guess is that the chinese bought a mine run, changed the name and claimed it for their own, as they often do. A frickin blood stone The metal bits are pyrite crystals
