That's exactly how my Mother used to torture me as a child, she'd wait until the bumps were good and blistery & then poor bleach on it. I DON'T recommend that! Here's what I found that actually works.

Have been using Tecnu for many years, that stuff really works on the poison oak I am very susceptible to. Don't go out to areas where I would be exposed to it now. It would probably kill me, lol. Got it once so bad as a kid, both my legs swelled up badly and itched to high heaven. My mom took me to our old school family doctor that birthed me. He gave me a shot of some kind, don't know exactly what it was. This would have been in late 60s. Up until then I had been applying a paste of baking soda and water. It hurt like a mother, but it drew the excess water out of my thighs, which gave me some relief from the pressure.

Johnny aGates It appears earlier poison ivy treatments were a bit on the raw side Johnnie aGates ! Those that mentioned their treatments have survived well and are of strong vigor to this day. No concern there ! Me, I have been spoiled by my sweet wife and was speaking sarcastically. However she can be a force to reckon with if looking for trouble. Congrats on your new marital status. I wish you guys well on your new journey.

1dave liveoak rockpickerforeverApparently this wood deposit is encased in volcanic ash. And apparently volcanic ash deposits are an uncommon occurrence out this way. It appears to be a common dark wetland clay so it looks like common clay. However it seems to grow poison ivy on steroids because it is so rich in poison. I am normally immune or unbothered to it's poison but not at this location.

I've wondered what impact on DNA uranium impacts have had on life forms and evolution.

Speaking of poison ivy -
It grows pretty good on that Tallahatta Sandstone too.
I got it pretty good when we had to bushwhack back from the Conecuh River , and I haven't had it for years.
Tecnu is on order !

Tis the season. Spring ivy is rich in the itch potion. Sorry to hear. Hot water will deaden the itch. They say the oil lasts a long time after being deposited on rocks and other objects. Chain sawing trees covered with vines might be the worst way to get a full body case.

This is not good:
"Poison ivy can be found from Nova Scotia to British Columbia, and from Quebec, south to Florida, Texas and Arizona. It is also found in the West Indies and Mexico."
It would make a fine security hedge ! Think about it.

Worst way to get a full body case is to be exposed to and breathe smoke from a fire that has poison oak/ivy in it. My dad logged for 25 years in NW Oregon, lots of times he said right through huge patches of the stuff, never got a blister. We had a big wind storm in '62, cleaning and burning after that got him exposed to the smoke, after that all he had to do was look at it; well get close at least. I helped make the cleanup piles but never was around while burning probably a good thing.

And some say they became more allergic to it as they either got older or got infected many so times. Seems it has something to do with the immune system.

Poison ivy and poison parsnip. I am terribly sensitive to them. My blisters and scabs last for weeks, the scars last for years.
FUN FACT#1: Blistered skin has no UV protection and thus you can get a serious sunburn in addition to your poison ivy. Even covered by a shirt and SPF 30. My hand looked like something from a horror movie, and the stabbing pains were awful.
FUN FACT#2: Dishwashing detergent (for hand-washing dishes, not for machine-washing)is good at removing the nasty toxic plant oils.
FUN FACT#3: These plant oils can get transferred from surface to surface, for example, from plant to hat to hands. And that's how I got poison ivy inside my ear.

My son and grandson are terribly allergic. It has never once bothered me. I have a bunch in my yard right now (that I need to do something about).
