Cleaning up with the relatives coming last month, we found this in a box of stuff from years ago, and neither Tom or I can remember where we got it.
But I became curious to know if this is a real ancient point or a modern fake or repro OR an old one that wasn't finished
(seems pretty thick in the middle to be a functional arrowhead) -I always thought they were more blade-like.
Size- approx 2" long, by 1 1/8" wide X 1/2" thick at widest
So any expert opinions out there . Thank you,
Patty

It looks real. Most reproductions have better workmanship and prettier material. However it depends on who made it. The fellow had a hard time working the edge in the last photo. Looks like Ohio material but that is a difficult call.

Thanks Jim -
I guess the makers of these things had different skill levels, no different then it is today.

Looks pretty real. Throwaway duds or practice pieces are not uncommon around Amerind sites. I've found fat ones, curved ones, crooked ones etc that would plainly not have been suitable to actually use as a projectile point.

Thanks Mel, for the confirmation.
We will return it to an honored place in our fossil collection :-)

That is an authentic point. Skill level, hard looking material worked and use dictate what that point ended up looking like.

Thank you mjflintyThat's amazing & from the description you very well may be right.
Funny thing is, we're from NY and very well got it / found it while living up there.
It was so many years ago, neither of us seem to remember.
Good resource as well.

Real. The patina on it looks ancient and it might have been re-knapped in an effort to freshen up the edge and get a little more life out of it.
