Thanks jasoninsd , now I just have to figure out a jewelry design to do something with it.

I bet as soon as you figure it out and complete it, you'll be over the moon! Ba-dump-bump! LOL

Not really as thin as I would normally make a cab but I can't resist throwing some diversity into the mix. This was the raised edge of some bluish botryoidal chalcedony which the tops got cut off of during the initial grind. So you are looking at cross sections of the botryoidal protrusions. I couldn't help but stage it against a corona borrowed from a paper plate. Just to show how thick I allowed it to be and the size of the bots that were topped. Here are the pieces left from the trimmings.

Hi all! I've always loved watching these threads but only recently joined a club where I have access to a cabbing machine. So I'm happy to start participating and taking on these challenges! Here's some amethyst from Creed Colorado, sometimes people call it sowbelly agate. I've had several pounds of this in my collection since I was young and I'm happy to finally be able to polish it up!

Getting one in here just in time, although it is slightly less than 1mm short of the 3:1 ratio Gel chrysoprase from Australia cut to an 7.5mm X 22mm x 7mm oval with a back cut to set like a faceted stone. pics of size couple pics showing translucent quality pics showing shaping of the back pics of dome and face for the contest ETA pic of preform

Last minute! Dino doo. The preform has been kicking around for years. No dome on it as it is concave (I guess I could flip it over lol)

It's very pretty. Could it be marcasite?

It's very pretty. Could it be marcasite? rockbrain - I had a piece that looked identical to this and it was ID'd as Marcasite in Quartz. Fantastic looking cab!! Peruano - I love what you did with that cab! It looks great with that "natural" edge! paintbiscuit - The symmetry on your cab is spectacular! Great job! Bravura Cabochon Designs - Incredible craftsmanship...as always! stefan - That ain't no crappy cab!

It's very pretty. Could it be marcasite? Agree. Marcasite, probably from Indonesia. Doesn't look like Nipomo, CA, material.

Looked up Marcasite, Marcasite in quartz and in agate. Looks like that's what it is and I think it's the Nipomo material. That's the only one that pictures come up with the amber color and there's quite a few of them that look like this.

Didnt think I'd get one done in time but just finished this one so might as well enter it. The material is a piece of coral I plucked from some landscape rocks the other day. It's 12mm by 36mm. Gold luck everyone and thanks Tommy for all your efforts putting on the contests every month!

oldschoolrocker - Way to break out the big guns with that material! I'm still in awe of that find! That is some of the coolest coral I've seen! That's the second gorgeous cab I've seen that you made from that stuff!

Thanks for the kind words!

Was finally able to get a decent photo of my cab today. This is an unusual common opal I find in Central Nevada.
