Hi fellow rockhounds...this was an exceptional day, and I'm not even on holidays!!! Went golfing this morning, collected rocks in the afternoon, and went fishing in the ocean this evening. Golf game was the pits, rocks were great and fishing was awesome!!! Caught three salmon, one of which is on the barbeque right now. I live in the best place on earth...Vancouver Island!!!

Hello IslandGirl, Welcome, it sounds like you had a wonderful day! You know what they say "Even the worst day of fishing ... is better than the best day at work!" I used to live in Washington State, Lake Bay to be exact. We had a 26' cabin cruiser, a Bayliner ... oh, what a beauty she was! The Sea Dolpnin IV. A 350 ci engine with dual 10" props ... boy that boat would flat get up and go! At 3,500 rpm it would get up and plane across the water ... I wished I still lived there! We caught a lot of King Salmon off of that boat ... a lot of good memories Grilled salmon ... when do we eat? Again, welcome and it's good to see that you have joined our group! Thanks for the welcome, John! We moved to Vancouver Island last year and I imediately got hooked on the rocks...found this site...bought two tumblers (one Thumbler, one Loretone) and it goes on from there. Just purchased a 7" wet tile saw but haven't had time to set it up yet. I have buckets and buckets of beach and river rock that are waiting to be tumbled - I never come home empty handed. A quick stop at the beach usually ends up being at least a two hour rock hunting trip! Yes, I am addicted.
As for the fishing, it's something I have always loved to do. This is the first ocean fishing I've done - just went out with chest waders though and had a ball. Waves were coming in pretty good and almost got knocked off my feet a couple of times! We have a VERY small boat (only 12') and can only use it in VERY calm waters and VERY close to shore, so this wasn't the time to use it!
Anyway, back to the rocks...I've found this forum to be an excellent place for info and particularly enjoy the before and after photos that are posted. When I get my camera up and running I will post some of my own pictures of rocks I have hounded as well as the area I am hounding in. I also do wood carvings and plan to incorporate some of the polished rock into the spirit faces. Ahhhh, so much to do.......

Hello & Welcome IslandGirl! Your day really sounds like a great one! ;D It is soo good when we get days like that! I just love the beach, but unfortunately I get soo sick in boats. I collect most of my rocks from the seashore because the water and the sun makes them look so beautiful and round! Vacation is almost over for me, next week I will have to go back to work and school. I'm going to be soo busy. At leat I'm getting into a geology class and learning about rocks will be fun to me! Bye now, happy to have you here! ;D

What a day! You lucky gal, living where you can collect cool rocks then go fishing and bring in a haul at both! We have plenty of golf around here, but no ocean and only flint to be found!

Hey Islandgirl. WTG on the fish, at least the fun part of catching them, just glad I don't have to be there to eat them. ;D I love fish, just not salmon. Lucky dog you got a saw, that is so cool. Can't wait to see some of your stuff.

Hey Ron, I've really enjoyed your website. Looks like we are collecting the same kinds of rocks, too! A person just has to know what's inside those babies, right???
We've had so much company since we moved here but things are slowing down a bit and I've got more time to spend doing the things I love best. Ain't life grand!!!! I've checked into this site a bazillion times as a guest just to see what's been happening, but will start logging on as a member again.
Will keep you posted as to what's happening here. And thanks muchly for responding to my post.

Welcome on board Island Girl,
Like you I live on an island too and collect rocks at the beach. I have done some fishing in my days , but prefer not too as I hate loosing all those hooks and lines when getting stuck on the rocks. Better to collect the rocks ;D ;D On my previous farm we had a river for boundary and it was good troutfishing there. Hmm Yum , there is nothing like freshly caught fish straight into the frying pan. Hardly ever had a snag in that river. On hot days I went in it to cool off during farmwork. Further upstream the water was so clean you could drink it while you swam...during a river raft . LOL Moonstone...for seasicknes you can get small armbands at the drugstore. My wife uses them to great effect. They work better than any pill she used to take for sea and airsickness.
Roll on
Jack

Welcome, Islandgirl! Appearently youve done this before, so welcome back! I don't really care for fish (had a bad experience and the smell brings on the dry heaves ) but I do love salmon on the grill, with lemon, capers and white wine worcestershire sauce (don't be impressed, I'm looking at the bottle). Just doesn't get any better. Would love to see your rocks, post pics soon. cookie
