I have always sold my wire and smithing scraps to Rio in the past. I just went to check the value of 200 grams and found they are charging $50 for anything valued under $500. Are there any other good sources to send it in to? A couple years ago I took a bunch into a local pawn shop and they took it in back and said they tested it and it was not pure silver. I have never used anything but pure silver from Rio so I am 100% sure they just did not test it right. Sent that same lot to Rio and got paid. Trying to avoid the pawn shops if possible to avoid that issue. Thanks Chuck

I posted about Rio a while back and their BS fee. If you spend a whole lot, they waive the fee.
If I remember right, I think Thunderbird is the place to go now. I'll try to find the old thread.

For what it may be worth, I have a friend in the antique business who buys sterling and gold from estate sales. All of the top estate sales people in his area use him. He chose to refine with United Precious Metal Refining.
I've never used them. For several years I recycled with Hoover & Strong, but they dropped me a couple of years ago because I wasn't buying enough product. I was assuming that I would use Rio when ready to recycle but after this news, when ready, I'll be shopping around.

Also check with your local jewelers. A lot of them will buy scrap silver and gold.

Thanks to all who replied. I'll research Thunderbird. Have never dealt with them. Worst case scenario is to hoard it until I hit the $500 mark with Rio. It was just really convenient to send to them and get a credit where I shop for supplies.

If I become a wholesale account I would have to turn in $500 to avoid fees. In that photo above it says a wholesale account is easy to get via my tax I.D. number. Rio PRO is the one that requires a crazy amount of purchases to maintain. Chuck
