Our lapidary club had its annual picnic this past weekend. The club had this piece of donated equipment that they've had for awhile. No one bit at the silent auction for the opening bid of $25 so they decided to do a live auction at the end of the picnic just to get rid of it. The starting bid was $1 and nobody raised their hand so I did and picked it up for $1! I figured even if it isn't something I can use, the 1/2 HP Dayton motor is worth the price!
It came with 2 3/4 inch wide SiC wheels. One is 50/70 grit and the other is 220 grit. Both are about 5 3/4 inches in diameter.
This thing looks like it has been over engineered! It has an adjustable rest. There are 2 water connections and tiny little holes on the inside of the hood where the water comes out. Looks like the water would spray the back side of the wheels instead of the top. The arbor that holds the wheels is held onto the main arbor with a compression nut. I pushed the wheel arbor on too far that is why it looks like it is too far to the left for the water outlets.
The cord for the goose neck light looks like it could use a replacing and the cord for the motor has a electrical taped splice in it and the plug is missing the ground pin so that needs to be replaced too.
To me it doesn't look like a lapidary tool. It looks more like something you'd use in a metal shop. Maybe for sharpening chisels etc.
Does anyone have any info about it? There are no markings or labels on it at all.
