Hello all. I used to be a tumbler and was active in the forums here on RTH but 2 years ago had to move/downsize to a seniors residence where tumbling is not allowed. It killed me to give up all my equipment and rocks I found/purchased but I still follow RTH and am always scanning for rocks on my daily walks. Recently I had a brainwave and started painting a few selected finds with nail polish and that has reignited the passion but in a different way obviously. So I'm thinking there must be others in the same boat...what are you doing to make your rocks more visually appealing? I'm wide open to any ideas...

I’m getting ready to start carving with a dremel soon.

We'd love to see photos of your painting. Patty If I ever get to where I think it's worthy I'll post pics for sure but right now I'm experimenting...pretty heavy "competition" when you see what the tumblers come up with

Hand polish. Get a small square of glass (or several if you can find them) A flat surfaces rock (thing geode halve or even a thicker slab) some grit (tumbling grit works fine) and water. Put a little grit on the glass and add a little water. Place the flat on the grit and grind grind grind. It is a great arm/ upper body work out. It can be done in little spurts here and there. It is super quiet and very easy. Move through the various grit stages and you end up with some hand polished beauties. I did a couple geode halves and it took me a couple weeks. SPent about 15 to 20 minutes a day grinding
