Son Of Beach I know Chad, thats why I’m nervous lol!! 😟😆 I think I’m nervous too because someone else is expecting something nice from me! I would say take your time, they've been brewing forever and they aren't going anywhere.
I have a handful of rocks that I've put in and pulled from different stages.
The good ones are worth the patience and a little TLC
That yellow banded one at the top though, that one is screaming tumble....

I think you’re on the right track ashley. That’s what I did. Sawed then tumbled. Clean them up as good as possible. Sometimes you can see some patterns to help you decide how to saw. I had some that had some soft, crumbly areas that fell apart during sawing. They’re beautiful agates though. Can’t wait to see them finished.

Starguy Thanks Brent! How long did you do yours in the rotary? I like my tumbles pretty well shaped so probably a couple months minimum. I think there are still some tumbling right now.

Good looking stuff. I always tumble rocks like that. If showing good patterns, I cut , then rough tumble, then sand the saw marks off, then finish tumble. Even the ones you don’t cut, just tumble. Leave them in first stage till they get the look you are looking for. Good luck.

ashley I’ve been working on some Alimajo agate from Malawi. They seem a little more solid than the Gambiri agates I’ve worked with in the past. Your agates look nice and solid with interesting fortifications. I have a couple Alimajos in pre-polish right now. I’ll post pictures when they are done. Here they are rough:

Yep, I would use the saw to cut to the size you want to start with, and maybe remove some of the deep pits not likely to grind away in the tumbler. Then about a week of coarse, open and check the slurry. If they look like they're okay, add a little more coarse and filler, let them roll undisturbed for 3 weeks. By then your grit will be fine grit, you can skip it if you want or if you think it could use a little more rounding go ahead with fine grit for a week or so. When they're good and rounded you can always switch to lot-o or clean out real good and continue rolling.
