Hello. I up-loaded a video showing the kinds of rocks I will be starting with when I start tumbling. It seems like rock used for landscaping purposes years ago. I just wanted to get ya'lls take on it. I see these rocks as my practice rocks. Anyway, here is the link.

hey jammer8red, nice to see you in the forum. Hope you'll stay and make it a "career". It might as well be mine as well. Anyway, you ask for our take, so here is mine. For practice or your very first tumble it is a great idea to start with a type of rock that is known for tumbling well with great results, jasper, agate, or some types of petrified wood. Not saying that the rocks you have won't work, because some of them might be quartz and that will work fine. However, since you don't know exactly what they are I wouldn't want you to waste time on them if they end not working out. So, how do you know if it is jasper, agate or petrified wood? Well, you have to search photos of each on the internet or books. I didn't know what anything was at first. I had the slightest idea. One idea is to buy rocks online. Shipping charges make me cringe every time, but, where else can I get these rocks? Some ideas are: botswana agate, amethyst crystals, rose quartz, Montana agate, desert jasper, or a mix package of jasper and agate, that way you know what you're tumbling. A pound or two isn't too expensive. Thanks for your questions.

My first batch is in polish right now & I had the same issue -
I wanted to know that this first batch at least had a chance of doing good & being similar hardness - but I wanted a variety.
I was pleasantly surprised that The Rock Shed sold a mixed tumbling batch of just that - a mix of similar hardness rocks.
It wasn't hard to twist my arm and order 5 lbs.
A lot of tumblers on here swear by The Rock Shed's, grit & polish
so it was an easy, add on to the order, with reasonable shipping even, in a flat rate box.
Patty .... hoping to show off her first batch in another couple of weeks.
