I inherited an old Lortone LU6 combination machine years ago and have finally gotten to learn basic cabbing so I'm fixing it up. Lortone no longer responds to customers but Kingsley is able to order their stock so I can get some needed parts. Unfortunately they can only order parts if they have a part number, and I'm not sure what some of the parts are called! Can anyone tell me the name or part number of the felt ring that sits against the bearing inside the collar? i.imgur.com/QhiyjzV.jpeg
The outer diameter is 40mm or 1 9/16", inner diameter is 19mm or 3/4", thickness is 7mm or 9/32". It's clearly to seal the bearing against moisture, but such a part might be called a flange, gasket, seal, ring, or any number of things. In this case it sits against the AL204-012 bearing made by NTN. One side of my arbor had it and one didn't (and you can *really* tell which is which by the state of the bearing). There was also a smaller felt ring just hanging out there on the arbor shaft by the o-ring. Kingsley says they don't have any info on any felt parts for the machine. If they can't get it, perhaps I can get an equivalent from an auto parts store or online bearing shop. I'm in Texas.
I pulled apart the whole machine, stripped the paint, and have the body soaking in EvapoRust. The bearings were in terrible shape and the saw box had quite a bit of rust but the machine is in surprisingly good condition for sitting in a basement for the last 30 years. I decided to go ahead and replace the arbor shaft while there are still some available, as well as the bearings, retaining clip, rubber isolators, and feet. The pulleys and various steel flanges look ok. I can replace the pulleys pretty easily if that's recommended. I'd rather not have to dismantle the shaft again. I'll throw some new washers on, and I'm rigging up a water system. It still has the grinding stone and expandable sanding wheel.
Is there anything else I should be aware of? This is a long-term goal being met and I am super excited!
Photos are at imgur.com/a/BhSVTD4 including my wonderful "I'm not asking nicely" wrench which I used to get the stubborn bits apart.
