woodman Bob, you always seem to identify your pet wood. Do you use a reference book to help with this or is it from your expertise on the subject?
To start with, Stinking Water wood is just about the easiest to ID. Yes I use several but the best is "Identifying wood by R Bruce Hoadley" The book is about modern day wood but for the most part thee cell structure has not changed all that much. I have friends that know more than I that i fall back on from time to time.
This rather large chunk of Stinking Water elm resides in my shop. Can't figure out a place for it in the houses!! Meant to give it to a niece last month, but let her get away before I remembered to load it in her rig!
When I was trying to make cabs for the monthly contest, I showed what I was working to the wife. She wanted earrings so these are the last two I finished today!
Stinking Water Oak and Stinking Water White Plume agate.
I finished my cab early this time. Just gotta get some pictures that don’t look like I took them with a potato.
Tell me about it! Taking decent photos of small ones is extremely hard. I had a small square finished and could not get a decent photo of it, so I made a bigger one and was still hard to get a good shot of it. I finally just went with the best one and moved on!
OK, it is what it is. Eye sight not what it used to be. Stinking Water White Plume agate. I made a smaller one, but could not get any good photos of it.
