 Cut on this today, Stinking Water Oak root material! Where did you acquire all of your stinking water material? Did you dig a bunch or buy a lot? That digging is hard work. It was all self dug!! That is why my back is shot!  |

Yoo.. that last one is nice. Also… I blows my mind how many people are out there regularly picking up agate. Everywhere I go, I see people picking. Agate and fossil picking is a really popular winter activity along the coastline. People travel from all over and spend several weeks to enjoy picking at the beach  The pics that I posted are of a new bed that showed up yesterday. We're having a storm now with big waves and higher than normal tides. It will be interesting to see what happens with the gravel beds. The gravel beds can show a lot of the black/agates for sure. The next tide, they may be gone, covered with sand! |

After you get the cab made, throw it in some bleach! should bring out the growth rings. This really did work  This end cap was almost completely black inside and now look at it.  I have the cabochon soaking in bleach now but I'm not going to reveal it before the contest is over. I'm loving the result but it feels a bit like cheating to me  It can really make a difference in some material. This looks great! |

All the shots above are limb cross sections that somehow separated like blocks of firewood being split, and then chalcedony filled the gaps. Noted. As if a digested section of quartered/split petrified wood or plant limb. That is mind blowing. It would be interesting to have a paleontologist experienced in IDing petrified woods take a try at IDing that plant type. woodman ?  It would take someone with a lot more knowledge than myself. And a real good microscope. there may not be enough cell structure left to be able to tell. Interesting! |

Since I need to chose which cab to enter, I will go with the smaller of the two.   I was thinking more of the material than I was of a single cab. |

realrockhound Here ya go!   I phot4ographed the original photo of the cabs on a slab of Golden Oak to show more of what the material looks like, I had thought about doing in on just black like these.
