Beautiful jaspers that look great against the copper, and those matching cabs are amazing. Compared with the others the green cab seems like it is not in harmony with the others. As sharply pointed as you can make cabs I'll bet you could make hour and minute hands of stone.

Well I see you're at it again Adrian! You can't keep a good man down and your "itchy fingers" can't wait to start a new creation! Are you going to "seal" the copper or will you let it age naturally? connrock

Thank you, friends!
Tom, if "sealing" means covering with some laquer or such, then it's NO. I'd rather let it take a slight patina by the time. (I like the look of the unsealed copper frames of the meteorite slabbet in my knife, and I think it has been stabilized by now after two years).

Yes that's what I meant by "sealing" it Adrian. I have some pieces I've made that are sealed and some that aren't and like both "effects". Something that I don't think has been mentioned is how difficult it is to cut cabs exactly the same and you're doing great with that! connrock

Cab shape goes very well with the overall clock shape. Cab colors go very well with the copper. Lovely piece! A natural patina will highlight the cab colors.
Will the cabs be glued into place?

Thank you, Pat. No, the cabs would not be glued; I would cut a window for each cab in the copper sheet such as the window's contour would hold the cab securely. Adrian

This is really coming along. The cabs look great! I didn't realize it was so big. That's gonna be a real show stopper.

Hello again friends, I've been working to the face of the clock, finishing it. I managed to cut the windows for the four cabs, together with some other finishing opperations that you will see in the pics below. Firstly, I sandwitched the face between two plywood pieces and clamped them all together as you see here, in order to grind the exactly contour: Then I cut the windows into the face, for the four cabs you know by now. I was cutting those windows by drilling and cutting in between the drills... ... and then by grinding the windows using some files: (I can see now I MUST make some order on my work bench! :/ ) Here is this face, with the windows for the cabs finished. As you see, I also engraved my signature on the face of the clock. And this is the face of the clock with the four cabs in position: Thank you for looking, Adrian

That's a really cool looking project. I was wondering how you were going to cut the holes for the cabs. I'd be really nervous filing out those holes because I'd be afraid of messing it up. You did a great job.

Adrian Does that mean that you will just stuff the cab in the cutout? I don't see how that would work.

Pat, the borders of the windows are tapered a bit such as the cabs would stay securely, stuck between the copper face and the wooden back. (The size of the windows on the back is a bit bigger than the size of the windows on the face of the copper sheet).
