Interesting but the U.S. is a much different place than a lot of countries. Millions of firearms in circulation, lots of armed gangs and general criminals, lots of drugs and lots of bad neighborhoods that must be patrolled. I think a London bobby would crap is pants in a place like my hometown of Oakland, CA. I think most cops would simply say screw it and quit if they were disarmed in this country. Cops have families they want to go home to just like everyone else.....Mel

If anything, give the cops heavier, more efficient weapons. Let them match firepower with the criminals.

If anything, give the cops heavier, more efficient weapons. Let them match firepower with the criminals. Like NYPD? They have guns with 12-16# triggers. That is really heavy!! This because the city requires DAO for duty carry. NOBODY can shoot well with those triggers and the NYPD's lack of training budget means the cops shoot in practice, maybe, once a year. That is why they shoot so many rounds and never hit their targets. Certainly this cop should be disarmed. and this cop tooDisarm cops? No, that is not the solution. Not in a country with 200Million guns in private hands. But something needs to change. The two previous examples happened in the same month (maybe even same week).

2 Questions.
#1 -- How large is the N.Y. P.D. ?
#2 -- Only 2 cops out of the whole N.Y.P.D. ?

If we have declared a WAR on drugs, then to fight this WAR our PD's should have access to the same weapons as our armies do..also they could use the some of the money the armies have to waste..we need to be able to protect our homeland, which is being attacked from within....So i guess my vote is NO its time to update our police and give them better equipment to at least be on a equal playing field.its not a good feeling going into battle knowing you might be out gunned..ask any Vet.

Heavy DAO triggers. Man I hear that Scott. I own a Smith MP9 ( very popular with police) and have shot it the last two Wednesdays. Man, that pistola does not have an easy to use trigger. Very heavy and stagey. Very reliable with all ammo I've tried so far but I've to to admit, I have real accuracy problems out past 10-15 yards. It's not the sights as those are fine. It's me trying to correctly manipulate that dang long hard trigger pull.....Mel

Only two questionable in a two week period!! If you want me too I can come up with many many many. Just google it. NYPD is famous for how bad their cops are at many things including bad shootings. In one there was over 40 shots fired by multiple cops and the target fled the scene unhit. Actually the question arises why does NYPD NEED so many cops?? To enforce bullshit laws like what knife is legal and who sub-rents whoms apartments..... oopsie, I forgot the dude selling loosie cigarettes getting the death penalty!! Thats four-five more bad cops in the same month.

I have a friend who is a Police Officer in Atlanta,Georgia.....I asked his opinion on the subject..
Quote" Carl Pyrdum You asked.......so here is my take on it.
It doesn't make sense . as proposed. It is a unrealistic Dystopian twist to a Utopian dream state of belief that people will right themselves if given the chance.
If police were armed and allowed to "act" as they once were, you would not need to have the average citizen concerning themselves with concealed carry.
In the famous film that will be playing a lot this month? Its a Wonderful Life? With Jimmy Stewart? Pay particular attention to what happens when he returns to Pottersville and slugs Ward Bond the town cop.
Watch as Ward Bond pulls his pistol and shoots at him six times. And for what? For slugging a cop? This was the reality of the 1940's in America. Police officers didn't just carry firearms for fear or necessity of the possibility of encountering armed criminals. They carried those firearms as a tool of enforcement and the power of their office..
Shoot an unarmed suspect for assaulting a cop? You bet your ass. that is precisely the way it use to be and that is precisely the way it should be again presently. All of this Ferguson BS is just that, BS.
The American people have absolutely no idea just how thin that thin blue line actually is, but they are about to find out in my opinion. Once it begins, once the racial demonetization succeeds in demoralizing and disarming what police we still have? Watch what happens then.
The police will not be able to contain the racial chaos and the race based rampaging that will result and once it begins, short of civil war it will not end. Is it time to disarm the police? I think the better questions to be asked would be, Is it time for Americans to arm themselves in preparation of what is about to come to pass in America. " Quote

How about this ? Instead of Mayor Dingleberry Billionair Dictator spending all of the tax payer dollars on regulating what they can or cant eat or drink in NYC ? Instead of sending the smoking cops out to nab folks who light up out on the street ? How about he spend those tax payer dollars on weapons which his police forces can actually shoot with accuracy ? How about he spent some of those tax dollars for more shooting range and training time ?
If I were a cop in NYC, or any other city for that matter, and I felt reasonably threatened by some wrong doer, You can bet your sweet @ss I'm going home after my shift. And the wrong doer is going to be in the morgue. The only difference between me and those NYC cops ? I'm not a nice guy. I won't try for a kill shot. I'll try for a gut shot, so his would be criminal buddies can watch him scream in pain as he bleeds out on the sidewalk.

The new mayor Blasio or some crap is even worse! He is even going back at the large sodas!!

haha! Yes, in the right circumstances.
In response to Mikes Atlanta cop friend. I can't agree with him more. I'd go back even further to the mid 1800 when the wild west was still wild. Everybody carried openly and folks were mostly polite. Except the criminals who got caught in the act, they were just shot. No need for prisons, mostly.

The good ones don’t need a gun to do their best work. Abner Louima or Kelly Thomas can vouch for that.
Well . . . Abner could.

Rich, "The good ones don't need a gun to do their best work." I'm sure there is a long list of the wives of dead cops who had guns on the job who might disagree with you on that one. That is unless you think every cop who is armed and KIA is a bad cop..Mel
