Thank you, @wampidy, rockpickerforever, grizman, herchenx, Fossilman, and jamesp! I appreciate your kind words of support and prayers! It looks much better now, and will hopefully find out the diagnosis on Tuesday, June 16th. Jean, I'm sorry to hear about your dad and hope he is healing well, and GodSpeed to him! Made me cringe reading about his staples and what he went through. I hope his insurance company pays for the procedures.

When I checked our mailbox Monday afternoon, I found a package. Opened the package and found a very kind note from Eva and Tommy and a Tommy Lay Original!! Here's the Beauty!! Thank You So Much, Eva & Tommy! Y'all Rock!! Tommy Lay Original Apache Creek agate cab with Tommy's outstanding wrap I wanted to share the good news with everyone and thank you so much for the well wishes and prayers! You don't know how much it meant to me during this time. The 'thing' in my left eyelid is not a tumor, nor is it malignant, it is something weird called an amyloid deposit. I will see a doctor at Emory in Atlanta to see if it is possible to have the rest of the amyloid safely removed. The eye surgeon wants me to see our general practitioner to see if he may wish to schedule tests for primary systemic amyloidosis as well secondary causes of amyloidosis. Rick and I will probably go to our doc on Monday. Going to ask our doc for possible advice on diet, too. Thanks again!!! rockpickerforever, how is your dad?

Jan, that is wonderful news about your eye! Yay!!! Time for life to slow down a bit and start getting back to normal.
Dad is getting better, I saw him on Monday (six days after the surgery). He was scheduled to have staples from his brow line removed the next day. While I could already see how his face is going to be transformed (almost like a face lift), it was still pretty "colorful" when I last saw him. He doesn't seem to be in a lot of pain because of it, but I credit that to the pain in his hip/back overshadowing it. He has had some vision problems because of the antibiotic ointment my sister has been applying, blurring his vision. And by pulling his face around, it has changed the shape of his eyeballs. He will definitely have to get a new prescription for his glasses.
In addition to the places bruised right after the surgery (I'll PM you some pics, too gruesome to post on the forum), he had some bruising appear along his jawline. Almost like a dentist had man-handled him during a tooth extraction or some kind of invasive dental work.
My sister has taken more pics of his progress, but has not emailed them to me yet. I'll see him on Father's Day, will take a thumb drive with me to get those newer pics. All in all, he is doing good.

Jan gingerkid, I'm glad to hear that there was no malignancy! That is certainly wonderful news. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers, this time hoping for localized amyloidoisis and not AL. The lab department that I supervise runs the immunofixation test that will likely be your next step. The absence of free light chains is what we are hoping and praying for.

Dang, don't know how I missed this one. I'm blaming the phone I inherited from the wife cause she hated it. Now I wish I wasn't so cheap and just got a new one too. Anyway prayers still are going out for ya Jan, your Pop too Jean. Good news all around doesn't mean they stop ! Thanks, Chris. Dad's facial bruising is fading, and his eyesight is improving. On Tuesday, he saw a pain management specialist, to have (cortisone?) injections in his back, having some sciatica issues. Sometimes, his back doesn't bother him so much, especially when his hip is throbbing. At age 84 (85 in ten days!) it's always something.
Just got a text from a friend I've known forever (well, almost 44 years!!) yesterday. She told me a gal in our click/lunch bunch in high school just had a small heart attack, and is in the hospital (is there such a thing as a "small" heart attack?). She is only 58, just a few months older than me. My other friend said, "This is so scary, we're not old enough for these things to happen to us." Well, guess what? We are, and they do...
Anyway, keep those prayers coming! I will certainly never turn down Divine Intervention, or even just some plain ol' warm thoughts. Jean

Jean, rockpickerforever, hope to hear an update from you on your dad! When will he have the staples removed? Please wish him a Happy Birthday! I also hope your friend is doing much better! Thank you everyone so much for your well wishes and I am very thankful for your prayers, too! Went to our PCP and asked for a referral to see Dr. Jonathan Kaufman at Emory (Atlanta) since he does research on amyloidosis. That fell through since he is not accepting new patients. I have an appointment on July 8th with Dr. Wojno of Emory Eye Care of Atlanta for consultation. I hope he'll be able to safely remove the remaining amyloid. On July 14th, I will be seeing Dr. Jillella (oncologist/hematologist) at Emory's Winship Cancer Center of Atlanta for consultation and lab work (blood and urine test for proteins). Have to perform a 24-hour urine test. Have to collect for a day and keep it refrigerated, but asked if I may keep it 'on ice' in an icechest instead, and Dr. Jillella's nurse said that would be okay. Gotta carry the tinkle jug on ice to Emory, ROFL. fantastic5 Ann, Thank You! What is an immunofixation test? When I spoke to Dr. Jillella's nurse yesterday, she said they placed an order for the pathology slides, but have not received them yet. Rick and I have been thinking and hoping that it is 'localized' amyloidosis, too, but I would like to have all of the required tests for confirmation as the eye surgeon recommended. The only information that I know of amyloid/amyloidosis is from what I've found on the internet. Here's some info on amyloid/amyloidosis if anyone is interested. www.amyloidosissupport.org/AmyloidAware_Booklet.pdf Gotta show off my 'stay well' gifts from Jim @wampidy. Thank You, Jim, I love 'em, and gonna try to stay well! Thank You for your kindness!!
