I shared with some forum members about the problems that I have been having with my left eyelid since last year, and good news that I wanted to share with everyone.
Last July, I had a CT scan to find out why I had ptosis in my left eye. Dr. Kao (my ophthalmologist) said she would call me if she found anything of concern. I never received a phone call.
When I had consultation with my oral surgeon before a tooth extraction, he asked about my eye and recommended that I call Dr. Kao's office for the CT scan results because the problem was not caused by my teeth. He also recommended seeing a neurologist.
I called Dr. Kao's office after we returned from Wade's (BIL) memorial service in Maryland and she asked for me and Rick to come to her office. The CT scan revealed there is a white patchy area in my eye, the eyelid swelling and vision in my left eye is worse. I think the vision problem is because I need to have YAG surgery to remove tissue around the artificial lens from cataract surgery when I was in my 30's.
She scheduled an MRI and I worried myself silly about the MRI scan. I had the MRI scan with and without contrast of my brain and orbits.
I had to have a second MRI scan yesterday morning so the radiologist could discern if it is fatty deposits or a tumor in the levator muscle. We were not charged for the scan. (yeehar!)
I went to Dr. Kao's office at lunch yesterday and she had the results of the first scans and the scans from that morning. The scans revealed that I have a benign soft tissue tumor in the levator muscle, "such as a rhabdomyoma or spindle cell tumor. Lymphoma is unlikely but can occur in this area."
The radiologist believes the tumor is not cancerous since it has "lack of significant interval change (comparing CT scan results from July 2014 to MRI's of this week) suggests a benign process."
The levator muscle controls movement of the eye (looking up/down and side to side.). They do not know how far back the tumor goes.
I'm not in pain, but it feels kinda like a sinus headache and pressure behind the eye and when the eye becomes tired, it droops more so I have double-vision in the eye which drives me bonkers, rofl.
I am scheduled for consultation with an eye doctor specialist on April 22nd in Columbus, GA.
Dr. Kao said the eye surgeon may go through the sinus cavity to remove the tumor, and that prognosis is good. A biopsy will be performed then to confirm if the tumor is benign.
She also gave me the MRI brain and orbits reports and I had to pick up the CD of my MRI scans yesterday. I have saved the scans on our laptop.
The scans are quite hilarious. Rick said I have a pointy head. A couple of them look like a Klingon from Star Trek. If y'all want to see any of the alien scans for chuckles, please let me know and I'll post a few.
Brain scans were normal and showed a couple of rocks in there.
Thank you for listening to my ailments. Gotta get the house squared away and will aggravate y'all later...
