That is a very fast frog. From storm to frog in what? 2 weeks? I'm looking at "Little grass frog" (Pseudacris ocularis). Time will tell, unless you get bored with them! Fixed typos captbob!

Getting a few/several emerging from the water every day to start life on terra firma.
Lizards have found a new favorite hangout. Can't keep them away. Have countless hundreds of lizards in the yard, so moving the tadpole farm to another spot won't do any good.
Hope some little frogs make it past the lizard gauntlet.

When I was a kid, I played in a neighbor's yard who had a pond. We loved the pond in the spring because there were tadpoles and then soon after lots of snakes that came around for a meal. Lots of critters for young boys to play with.

Well, today my wife stopped by Petsmart while out running errands and picked up an aquarium siphon and some Aquatic Frog and Tadpole Food. *sigh* I had been changing out some of the water, maybe 1/4 to 1/2 every day, but that didn't remove the waste on the bottom. Come on... they are just tadpoles and where they were was definitely far worse than where they are now. So, I set the tadpole pan on my truck tailgate (must be higher to siphon out the water) and put a piece of screen over the siphon end so the tadpoles wouldn't get sucked up and out into the waste water bucket. 90% of water siphoned out and pan refilled with fresh well water. Tadpoles rejoicing! actually, they probably don't care... Then there is the tadpole/frog food. The "pellets" in this stuff are about the size of ground pepper out of a pepper mill = small. Wife tells me the directions say to feed "5 to 6 pellets per tadpole or frog". yeah right. I'll get right on that. Told her to count the critters and the food pellets. We are both guessing right around 150 Tadpoles eating well. Ravenous little buggers. Seem to be eating the store bought food and still mauling the bits of bread and the shredded zucchini. Fewer froglets leaving the pan in the last couple days, but tadpoles are getting larger. Figure I need to arm them so they have a fighting chance against the waiting lizards. Need some REALLY small brass knuckles and shivs. Today's pic Wife says to have a contest here with who can guess the exact number of tadpoles being the winner. Again, I told her to go count them. Don't think there is going to be a contest.

Too many pellets will foul the water real fast.
Tell your lovely bride Bout my tadpole years and I said your original plan with veggies was better.
If you do use pellets, feed sparingly, often.

captbob- I know this saga is serious and I think it's cool you're saving the frogs, but the little interplay with the wife is just too funny. I've been keeping DH up to date with the posts. He can relate. We need a picture of the lizards in wait..... no, maybe not. They won't hold a candle to my visual, I'm sure.

AWWWWW He's so cuuuuute! I love frogs. So do Walleye this time of year I love to fish (saltwater). I don't mind the myriad of things that I have baited a hook with, but I don't know if I could use a frog. Do you use them live?

Opening soon....."Captain Bob's Bait Shop", operated by the ol' tadpole spooner himself.... Seriously, you owe the *lizards* big time...not the other way around. Imagine if all those frogs lived....wet frogs stuck to the door handle of your car, the door, sitting in your lawn chairs, on your windows, on the water hose handle, on top of your head. Grabbing a wet frog every once in a while is easy to deal with...having those wet amphibians suddenly appearing in your hand or on your neck on a regular basis might get a little interesting. So, is your wife one of those that squeals when something cold, wet, and moving surprises her? Kinda like one of the plagues of Egypt. Do we have a name change coming, CaptTadpole? ? <g>

Wife saw pictures in a jamesp puppy thread awhile back where all the puppies had different colored collars.
She was looking at the tadpole ranch this morning and commented that all the tadpoles needed different colored collars. Knew exactly what she was thinking.

My wife likes word puzzles, so I asked her. She said lots of bad words, but couldn't come up with that one.
