You go to the drive-in with your family and the first thing you notice is they have new gravel. My first taptalk post. Woohoo! What makes you a rockhound?

Reading all of the posts by you guys with cool rocks and wishing there were some here. LOL! Seriously, though, I'm taking a trip to Maine soon and I hope to pick up some rocks there. Last time I was up there, I wasn't that interested in hounding (funeral) but I did pick up some really pretty granite pieces. I think it was granite, anyway.

When I was 8-10 years old, having my dad say I spend most of my time looking at rocks while fishing along a nearby river. He said once he thought maybe he better weigh me out before going home.

The one I'm holding is quartz and I think fluorite, but I'll have to use a loupe later to see the structure. Really nothing, but we just don't have much here in Tennessee I get tickled with the little things.

You can't pick another one up without having to put one down.

Oh, these sound familiar. Yesterday I was driving home and I got really tired so I pulled over and was walking around. "Oh... new gravel, hmmm, wonder what this pretty red rock is?" In the end I only let myself take 4 small ones, but I put the others next to the power pole, so if I get a chance to tumble these and they turn out nice, I'll get the rest and replace them with regular gravel.

You're going on a cross country driving trip with your folks and you're glad when pop's Chevy station wagon breaks down in the badlands of South Dakota so you can hunt rocks while he hitchhikes into town for a car part....Mel

Vic Bryce really busy already with tourists? Cool nights too. Most of the lodging was full. Park was pretty packed. It was ok out on the trails, mostly just parking. I have seen it much worse. We went on Sunday, Monday so that helped also. Vic Nights were great down in the 60s

I seem to remember that purple slab, Edmohs... Have you made a rockin' heart with it yet?

That beautiful slab is still intact, Jean! rockpickerforever It will stay that way. My goal was to polish it and present it back to you. Well I have good intentions Yep I'm a urban rockbound I got started in the hobby when a friend showed me a pile of slabs that were discarded in a Phoenix alleyway some unfortunate departed lapidaries collection. I collected those lost slabs and tried to do honor to their memory That rock hound sent me on really great quest I found the rock’n heart... Ed
