Slowly getting there. Lips, tongue and teeth are polished and fused. Foul language project WIP by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Still struggling with accepting my limitations working the size of the scorpion. Not happy with overall shape. Tail needs to change, and I hope that will give the creature instant recognition. Just to get an idea what size we are talking about....... Foul language project WIP by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Its my own fault, pride does not agree with me getting magnifying visors yet,.... But cant put it off forever, I suppose. You do fantastic work...............................MrP

Which kiln did you do these in, the one with top heat or just side heat?...................................MrP I used the one with top heat in a way...the bottom shelf only had side heat and the top shelf was exposed to both top and side heat. The hotter top shelf did these better, but sometimes the top heated top shelf causes problems for some glass by getting too hot. Top heat is mostly handy for fuse polishing. I may put the controller on the other large kiln that only has side heat for more consistent temperature. Nice to have both. Me not a flame polisher so that is of no concern, however it is nice to have a hot shelf and a cold shelf in one kiln. If you put that controller on let us know how it works out..................MrP

I'm confident Smugmug will do it justice. Yes but mark my words, the end of "free" flickr is coming. Smugmug is very organized in their ability to structure charges for their services, and from their website I only see safety assurances being given to their paying customers. I don't see a word to Flickr users that the product will remain free. I am sure that anything "free" on the internet will come to an end at some point. As you know somebody has to pay for everything related to the internet either buy Ads or you. Every post cost something, for power, network, servers, etc. Granted the cost is very small, per post, but when you multiply a small number by a HUGE number you get a huge number. There is not a person involved in the internet that is willing to do something for free. I am going to enjoy what we have now because I will be paying more in the future.............................MrP

James do you have any way to figure what COE the glass is when you get it at thrift shops or how do you decide to mix different pieces?...........MrP There in lies the problem. Only after buying $2500(150+) worth of vases(looking at this as a business so spending is allowed)have I learned which 'brands' work. It takes months for glass with COE problems to crack in some cases. so it is tricky Experiment-experiment-experiment. I have taken an ass whipping experimenting. It is a love of mine but this glass has forced 100's of experiments. I have found about 6 'brand names' that i can cross melt and I probably would not share that info on my product descriptions because of copy cats. I have now started shopping and bidding on these brands. I melted samples of 9 different vases last night. Took photos before and after. Keep the vases segregated and their melts(or slumps) organized for future reference. So, it is complicated Michael. It's all trail and error. Wife found a heavy 30 inch plate(!!) the other day for $2 at Goodwill. OMG, that sucker melts like a charm, from almost 1/2 inch thick to 3/16" That means it would melt to about 48 inches diameter and make a boo koo of fine pendants. Had 7 out of 9 do great Not even with a cousin? OK, so we are only 101st cousins. I get it. I wish Goodwill was cheaper here. Have found some nice vases but have to pay for them. If they are nice enough I guess it doesn't matter...........................MrP

Yes ! I was looking at them on your other post Zeke and commented. That is a fun hobby. How long have you been doing glass. I must show you a photo of the haul for this week and the next set of project vases piled in individual containers. Pendants in tray at upper left: James do you have any way to figure what COE the glass is when you get it at thrift shops or how do you decide to mix different pieces?...........MrP

JMO I have had glue on bails come off, more as they get years old. The reason I found out is because I worked with most of the people I sold to. I had tried different glues but all gave trouble with age. When I had people bring them back I checked ones I still had and tried to break them off. I found maybe 10% would come off with very little effort. Found that very unsettling to me. I did make some cheap tumbled pendants that I used a 5 leg cap on that I had no problems with. Maybe it is just me but that is why I went to drilling a hole and doing my wire bail............................MrP

jamesp You are right in saying not many glass blowers save there scrap. In the Twin Cities several glass blowers say right on there website that they reuse any broken or scrap in there projects. I called on those that didn't say anything about reuse and found that because of the cost they find a way to reuse everything. I guess you are lucky that the glass blowers in your area are so rich they can throw there scrap......................MrP

Oh Billy, you seem to be having fun. Glad for you. I want you to know that I am wide open improving the glass and each week improving. The tumbler is a month behind glass production, so these pieces out yesterday are about 4 weeks back. I feel like we are making great pieces. We are actually trying to reduce the amount of clear pieces. But this back ground makes great use of clear pieces. Very nice.................................MrP

pizzano Tapatalk is very easy to use Thanks Ali.......I'm using one of my go-to third party applications........getting to much flack here using RTH's attachment tool. Guess we're not suppose to take "advantage" of the service.....as if I post that many "image heavy" anyway........lol......I've gotten more responses to image transfers than I have rock identification help.........why offer it, if it's "to expensive" to support.........being called out as "disrespectful" doesn't set well either........(no reflection on you Ali). I am sure it is a reflection on me but that is OK. I have not seen anybody else on here that it has taken so long to take the HINT. I believe it is respectful to not use a service that cost RTH dollars once a person gets used to the board and starts posting a lot. You say you don't post 'image heavy' posts but I have found where you post 3 attachments one after another. I normally keep my mouth shut but seeing you keep on using the feature, after a number of people tried to 'suggest' you use another source, I decided to be more blunt. This is a wonderful board and I am sure many people want it to be around for a long time. As you know nothing is free. I know that Tommy says there is money in the pot but that is probably mainly because of donations and auctions. I think Tommy is running this because of his love for the hobby. The board would have to get very large before it would generate an income. I just feel it is being respectful to limit the cost involved in running the board. I will say no more....................MrP

Drummond Island Rocks and all you other master wire wrappers: This is way beyond any wrap that I could ever perform. I am actually looking for a partner to help with this glass 'manufacturing' gig if it takes off. A local person, maybe a retiree that would like to do minimal wraps, attend Atlanta arts festivals and help with possible internet listings. Minimal wraps for $20 pieces for instance. Or captbob a young nubile lol. Anyway, they need to live close by and hopefully have some internet savvy. But I need to have high quality wire on hand to get them started. I may go down to Amalgam Arts Jewelry school and see if I can find someone that wants to work out of their home wrapping. I just want to make the glass and oversee the tumblers because I really enjoy those functions. And the marketing aspect because I feel I have a product that is going to sell eventually. James, JMO but I would not do anything other then a very simple wrap, for anybody, for less then $10, even if they supply the wire. A multi wire wrap can cost $4 or more for the wire. I can do a nice wrap in as little as 15 min but most take 30 or more min. You take the cost of wire plus paying the person to wrap and your $20 pendant price gives you no extra $ from the sale. As you know that anything extra has to bring you a $ value or it is not worth doing. Remember this is JMO......................MrP

None of that is chapenite. Pea green longwave means tiny tiny bit of uranium. Parts per million glow green. Thanks NRG........I took another look (long wave) at the Agate tonight with my wife (she is not color blind, I am red & green).......she see's it as a orange/yellow almost the color of pineapple, as she calls it. It's not as bright like the pea green/yellow (wife confirmed) on two of the other Jaspers pieces that fluoresce within the surface fractures........sorry for the confusion.
So what do you believe the Agate is........and also the blue-ish (3rd row) and the greenish (4th row) Jasper....?
I ask my buddy again where he found the material, he thinks it was the Nelson Wash area since their project was about 1/2 mile away.......parcel survey to do with the Nelson Lake rehab extension.
I understand you're very knowledgeable with respect to the Mojave Desert area. Any information is appreciated.........thanks.
Dry Wet Wet with the Fluoresce spots
I am having a very hard time understanding why you are still using the attachment feature on this board. People have explained several times that it is a limited and very expensive feature, that is why almost everybody uses a third party to host there photos. I like the fact that you want to post many pictures but please respect the fact that there is a large cost involved in posting attachments.................................MrP

I was also going to say round wire is tough to work with unless it is a single wire. With the square wire you can also get a couple of pin vices and give the wire a real twisted look. Twisted is a little harder to work with but better then round......................MrP
