Crowley Ridge is around where he collected these I do believe(looked at his original post).. I collect the same kind but have never called them Crowley ridge..some collectors down here in Louisiana / Mississippi will reference them as those .I think location makes a difference.. The alluvial plane that dispersed them started in Tennessee and was wide spread.kinda like thunder eggs or jasper, folks like to know localities..It might just be me,but that's my take.. Anyway..lol I have tumbled a bunch of this type of agate.. they are best done in a vibe with cushioning to help prevent chipping /cracking. Attached are a couple of pics from one of my batches. Enjoy!!
I see you are still doing good things My Friend. I bet the spark in their eyes grew to flames when they stated talking about their adventures and their stones. Kudos to you for spending that time with them.
Here is what i got to see from my back yard...80% not too bad.. I was in totality during the last one over in Georgia ...planning to do it again when it comes around in April
Thunder69 - I have had that yummy pet wood you gave me decorating the sitting area out on the front porch. I believe your brother was with you and you guys had been in Dakota or Montana. Many visitors have admired it as it was so real looking and well preserved.
James that wood came from an excursion we did in Wyoming..I wanted to go hunt for more but time ran out this time around.
We this big guy on the way back down the mountain..one of the family asked if it was a male or female. I said it was definitely a he with them big ol goober on him ..lol..sorry for the vid quality ,I had to take it from another phone..
One more picture from the trip. We took some of my Dad's ashes to Saratoga lake- unfortunately, they killed off the lake this year and the fishing was non-existent. For at least 30 years we camped, water skied and fished there and I don't believe I've ever seen so few people (or fish!) on Labor Day weekend. Fortunately, it made us explore the area. We fished a little at Seminoe reservoir, Miracle Mile, and this nice little stretch of the North Platte River. So peaceful!
We came back down off the mountain and back through Saratoga..there are 2 different road cuts going out of town towards the interstate .. one has a dark green /black moss agate..( foot river access agate) and the next one has sicified wood ..we stopped and hunted the wood ...
We went fishing to a place that my Dad had taken me in Wyoming since I was a kid, then my kids went when they were growing up. A trip in remembrance of him I suppose... Thought I'd share a picture of myself, my kids and my grandson.
I was just up there last week..I made an amethyst cube with some of mom and dad's ashes and now they are in lake Marie...
Jason it was a pleasure to meet up with you.we all thank you for taking the time to take us out to the rock hunt. We will have to do it again sometime..
Fernwood... While I was on vacation I did get to see a live hummingbird moth in Wyoming...cool little creature..
I have not used one between cycles. I don't think you would get the same action/ results with the rock movement.I mainly use a vibe and the cyclonic action helps the tumbles/ceramics(rub) on each other.i think it helps get the film off the stones better. My 2 cents...
It was a bit to take in when we were there..the guy said we would fill our buckets up quick and he said he would be back in about 45 minutes.. I could have easily filled them in 10 minutes..lol . But old hound likes certain things if you know what I mean.. My wife sent me these pics ...
You can see on the hillside it is just littered with it...
