Maybe it's me, but the threads on the upper side of the block you just showed look a lot more worn than the threads on the lower part of the rod. Or, perhaps the threads are full of oil, causing the illusion of wear.

I couldn't even find what is apparently the right help file, think I'll stick with longhand.

The idea of putting the Applied site up is that it makes a good search/reference site for what is available, not necessarily the only or best place to buy. Have a look around at some other bearing sites.

That's a very nice selection for potential customers, well done. We have done a few shows and the fun is watching and listening to people as they paw through product.

The prize drawing was Aug. 18th, my wife's birthday, we were picked for a very nice piece of porcelain jasper that arrived in perfect condition. Thanks Tommy for picking her a nice birthday gift.

Interesting to see the real meaning of "Georgia Cracker". Friend in Viet Nam was from Atlanta, everyone called him the Georgia Cracker; he ran the non-destructive test shop, the "crack shop".

Quite a machine, I like those ancient gimbal pillow blocks, noticed one in the picture gallery is missing its bearing[bushing], that will be fun to find. Chuck, the jack shaft between motor and barrel is to provide a double reduction in speed from motor to barrel. Barrel rotates about half as fast as if belt ran directly from motor to barrel. I'd guess each reduction to be ~5:1, so 25:1 overall which means the barrel is still turning around 70 R.P.M., fast for that arrangement.
I agree, likely for something run dry, not rocks.

I might cut a piece or two off it when my free time opens up some.

If you are on a fairly thick [4" or so] concrete floor would a post crane bolted to the floor be practical? The post of the crane [on a plate] could be bolted down using concrete anchors and positioned along side the saw so the boom could be swung over the saw with a loaded rock. Small come-a-long or chain fall would work well on the end of the boom. Were you ever to sell the saw, such a crane would be a nice $weetener with the $ale.

Therein lies the problem at hand, no real evidence either way. Had we found it, there would at least be a better description in the "dirt record".

Interesting that it might not be coprolite, since it came to us second hand, I won't argue either way. Looks right, and a 5lb.+ turd from a hundred foot critter would be no more than a lumpy fart. The people who have seen it will have egg on their faces if it isn't, no one yet [well, except one now] has disputed the description. Now, how to prove/disprove. amygdule, hoping you can come up with some pics.

My contribution to this crappy thread, about 5lb. worth. A friend of my wife's said cut me a slab and keep the rest, not a bad deal.

I spent a winter ['69-'70] at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD and consider the weather not too different than here. I have a double sink with settling and drain system out on the edge of our covered patio. In the winter I hook a hose up from the utility room sink and have nice warm water to wash rocks with. I don't wash when the weather is really bad, but a little below freezing is very tolerable. The tumbler runs in an insulated shed, the motor keeps the temp. at 50F+.

Calling me a "long time expert" is a little embarraskin, appreciate the compliment, but "confirmed tinkerer" is much more comfortable.

I think legit, not uncommon to have to do that. I've been with Flickr long enough I don't remember if I had to do that or not.
