Wash them real good. Then put them in a perfectly clean barrel and roll them for a day. Then take them out by hand and pour the water through a sieve or similar lined with a white paper towel. Take a close look at what has filtered out. Then tell us what you found.

It is all about what is it worth to you.
When I am old and unable to do stuff, I won't look back and say "Damn, I wish I had done XXXXX".

If there is 6 months notice, I would show up. I am not afraid to do a little bit of driving. Just as long as it in NOT in NJ. I will never step foot in that unconstitutional hellhole. That's one helluva drive! It is considerably less of a drive to go from here to DC than it is to go to Q. I drove to DC in 23 and didn't think anything of it.

I love those barrels and rarely have had blow outs. It is most likely the material you are tumbling. I have never had a band go weak enough to stop working. I have had them break from getting old and cracking.
What material are you tumbling?

Bring buckets to put water in to clean your finds as you go. A scrub brush helps too. The idea is to check real good, what you are finding and locate the good stuff. This would mean bringing additional water with. And you can count on driving the point of the pick ax right through the center of the very best chunk you find. Never fails. Oh man, I feel your pain! Thanks for the advice. I will mentally prepare! I'll bring bucket out there that we will leave and hope to find full of rainwater on our next visit. And as much water as we can pack in! A scrub bush is also a great idea, will do. I've got a little portable power washer that might be great (low pressure so as not to damage the stone), but I'm betting it will be an inefficient use of water out there. Thanks, again! If you can damage the stone with water, then it is garbage.

It never even occurred to me that they would use plastic as a structural part of the machine. I guess thumler really has jumped the shark.

I don't see the deformed plastic. I think your rock load is gassing. Easy to fix. Just take the barrel off and burp it every day or two. Another thing is to never point the opening of the barrel towards the moving parts. Putting the machine in a spill tray like you did is very smart.

A night of cutting. 15 minutes of grinding. An hour to rough out on the 40 grit cups maybe. 8-10 hours on various diamond pads.
Just a rough estimate. I haven't been rushing it. I am having fun. I will never sell the llanite one, but I may sell some of the other ones. I don't expect to break even on the time spent, but it is fun and beats TV time.

I just pulled the llanite off the machine. It looks better than I could have hoped for. Doesn't photograph any better, but still looks wonderful.

Yeah. We had a lot of people leave another forum I go to that used to have a lot of the legends of the outdoors world post frequently. These kids who knew everything started coming on and treating the legends very disrespectfully. We had one little 12 year old bastard tell Asa Lenon, son of Herb Lenon, that he didn't know what he was talking about. That is like calling Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky hacks.

I just put that one under the 3000 pads. We will see how it looks in an hour.

Yes. And I want to go there and get more, but I can't justify going to TX for one location, and my research shows that there is not much else there except chert and a very few other things I am not interested in.
