Great looking cabs jasoninsd. You always pick the best possible orientation for your preform and the rock’s pattern. The polish is fantastic as always.

laz It won’t take you long to figure out that you’re not going to ruin a rock overnight with a tumbler. You just need to throw them in and get started. The rock you showed looks pretty tough. I would guess that after a week tumbling in coarse grit, you will be surprised how little it has ground down. Tumbling is kind of a trial and error hobby but most folks pick it up pretty fast. Some very soft rocks require special techniques. Obsidian and Apache tears can be pretty tricky. Tumbling agates is about as easy as it gets. Good luck. Looking forward to some shiny rock photos.

timpondyWelcome from Idaho. You shouldn’t need to go too far to find Lake Superior Agates. Lapidary arts are a great hobby. I’ve been working with rocks for 35 years or so. After I retired, the hobby kind of exploded. It’s good to have you guys here.

Hi Patty liveoakSorry I’m a little late to the discussion.. If it is well cleaned, one barrel is all you need. I use separate barrels but the only advantage is cleaning time. I have several barrels, so why not.

Welcome to RTH laz. Someone will come along who can help. I know it can be done because I use iPad too. I’m not too tech savvy but I remember that you have to follow the instructions exactly. Good luck. Looking forward to some rock photos.

I’m not 100% sure ashley. The colors are right for Gambiri or other Malawi agates.

markb I use aluminum rod sharpened on one end. It’s pretty easy to see and it doesn’t come off easily.

Hi gitting. Welcome to RTH. I can’t point you to any discussions but I can say that Lortone tumblers are going to be your best bet when it comes to rotary rock tumblers.

Beautiful tumbles, Starguy ! Botswanas are my favorites and those look perfect! I love Bots too. They’re easy to polish.
