Hi All,
I just finished my latest batch of Oregon Sunstones that I tumbled. When I tumble 'em I normally start off with 120 grit on my rotary tumbler...then 220, 400 and so on...normally I keep them in the tumbler for around a week at a time per stage depending on their size...I use ceramic filler to cushion the stones...I like to use the smaller sized uns...here's my latest batch....
another look in higher resolution
thanks for looking

Hi All,
went to plush Oregon to look for more sunstones....left really early friday and got back yesterday...spent the weekend looking for these colorful gems...did a mine run and some bank digging at one of the mines out there....on the way out stopped by the public collection area...purty slim pickins there...weather was spotty at best...rain and thunderstorm...then sunshine then it goes the other way again ....cold at night...dipped into the mid 30's....did purty well...about 5 lbs of clears and yellows and a few nice uns....enjoy the pics....
road to plush
not sure the name of this mountain
cool cloud formations
convict lake California on the way back
now the loot!!
big schiller....really nice color and purty chunky
nice red uns! I got a few really smaller pieces but these were the best uns
and my favorite find of the trip...a mongo clear piece...actually got flashes of pink when viewed from the side...
thanks for looking y'all

Your Oregon sunstones are beautiful faceted, booboo! Love the reds and champagnes! From your pics, I wondered if any of the reds are bi-colored? thanks!! yup! that pear shaped one does show a greenish tinge when viewed from a certain angle...pretty cool

I got back from mammoth lakes ca a few days ago for some R and R. some of the food places we stopped at to get some grub won't even bring out water to you unless you ask for it in a bid to save some H2o...it was alarming to say the least

This is a piece of Washington jade with rind and it looks similar except for the color. I also have a lot of jade that has the fractures running from the edge toward the center. Jim love the way you display the jade!!!

Ten bucks worth for sure. Check really really close for fractures because they are hard to see until they come apart. The yellow looks like a feldspar inclusion like I find here in north Wyoming but I would not go so far as to say it came from here. What I find has been rolled a long ways and has no rind. Jim cool! the gentleman from the rock club said it came from an older collection and he was saying it may have been collected from the Wyoming area...thanks for chiming in!
