Welcome to the addictive world of rock tumbling and this forum! This site is filled with all kinds of information and some amazing people. RTH is my new FB.
That being said, I agree with Toad… use them for filler. I've tumbled a few larger chunks of geode with varying success, but nothing spectacular. Better yet, don't tumble the larger pieces at all. Just keep them as is and use the fragments as filler.

Not a quite a "saw"… but way better than the cardboard box on my garage floor that I had been using. (my wife was getting a little upset about the pit marks I was making on the cement) The best part is that it was FREE!!! A good friend/neighbor of mine is a mechanical engineer and he pulled this out of his company's recycle bin for me. 16½" round x 1¼" thick (A-36 steel)

Geode or no, that celestite cave is pretty bitchin. Would love to see pics of the rhodocrosite cave in south america. Yeah, it's amazing walking down the steep steps and into a cave filled with massive crystals… especially as a kid. Will be taking my 8 year old daughter this summer for the first time. Put-In-Bay Islands are a blast in general, and they're close to (arguably) the best amusement park in the world… Cedar Point.

Sorry about the pics but I have an IPad and posting pics doesn't happen on the IPad. Looked into it and so far I get the same answer... I need a computer. I can post pics on emails but not on this site...not yet. But,life goes on. Try using the "Tapatalk" app... I've posted on this site using it with just my iPhone.

Fossilman, those are so cool! I've been buying most of my rocks on eBay lately, I did a search for "rough Baculites compresses" and only got one rock to show up. Can you let me know where to buy some? Thanks, John Most Baculites are self collected and really not sold on Ebay or other sites.....I'm headed to Montana this summer for a reunion, plus agate and fossil hunting-I can see what I can come up with (to sell)… Thank you, that would be great! Also, I actually found a guy on eBay that is selling them. He even put together a special order for me of about 40 pcs. (1"-2" in length, all of them being the smaller, black, "tubular" variety. I paid $34.99 and free shipping… can't wait to get them! Here's the link to see what I bought… www.ebay.com/itm/301912202558?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I don't know, but it must be a cave. There's a place called something like "Crystal Cavern" that's under water. Maybe in Mexico? That's my best guess. It is a cave… Crystal Cave on a Put-In-Bay island in Lake Erie. It was found in the late 1800's when a winery was digging a well.

Without cheating and "Googling" the answer, does anyone on this board know?
You'll be surprised when you find out.

Ex Ohio boy here too. Spent my pre teen years in Warrensville Hights, SE of Cleveland. Don't give up on hounding Ohio. It was a big & colorful hunk of petrified wood that sparked my interest in rocks. Found it at the old fishing hole about 1/2 mile from my house when I was about 6 years old. Once a Buckeye, always a Buckeye! Then again, once you escape this God forbidden state, be smart enough to never return. I lived in NJ for over 10 years (and I LOVED it), moved back to OH for cost of living reasons. Bad mistake. The rocks I used to find on the Atlantic shore were amazing… now I'm stuck with flammable Lake Erie rocks

Well, being from Ohio hounding is difficult. I mean the finding is difficult. Ohio is full of flint, granite, and Quartz. Digging in my backyard abuot 3foot deep and next to a spring I found some big chucks of flint.( dark red, blue, and grey) I was very happy. Sorry but no pics right now because they have to be cleaned up some. Flint is easy for me because it's so smooth and waxy that dirt doesnt stick much. have a good day. I feel your pain… I'm in NE OH, about 40mins south of Cleveland.

Thanks, Tom. It doesn't make sense to me, but I am new to all of this and will try out what you said. I appreciate any and all info/advice from people with more experience than myself!
UPDATE… Tom, I added a small amount of water and two drops of liquid Dawn. That slowed down the tumbling action considerably, but also left the Quartz looking "washed" of most of the grit. So I added a few more squirts of water and one more tbsp of grit. So far, so good! Thanks again.

Thanks Walt, I will be sure to post some pics after a few days in the Lot-O (of course I forgot to take before pics).
After that, planning on a few weeks in Stage 1 rotary, then back to vibe for polish. I guess this my first real experiment of my own.

In my seemingly endless wait for enough Stage 1 rotary rocks to fill the Lot-O, Ive been playing around with rough in the Lot-O with 120/220. After about a week, I got some nice Turritella very smooth on the sides (obviously not rounded much on the angles).
For my next batch, I just now loaded the vibe full of ONLY Quartz (clear, pink, purple and rutilated) and ceramic pellets. Is that ok? Should I add some other type of rock(s)? I've never tumbled JUST Quartz in any type of tumbler.
Thanks for any info/advice you can share!
John

24+ hours into my first Lot-O tumble (using Picture Rock rough, smalls and ceramic media)… I'm learning a lot about how this vibe process works… making observations and taking notes.

She's up and running now! Didn't have enough Stage 2 to fill her up, so I just put in 4lbs of rough to check out my new toy. Very cool to watch it do its' thing.

Thanks guys, I plugged it in as is and it is working perfectly! Also, it's a lot quieter than I expected… sounds like an industrial exhaust fan. I find it somewhat of a soothing sound in my garage/workshop.
