Guess I will jump in with a New Lander Variscite. (on closer inspection, this may be a piece of Nevada material. The box had a mix of stuff and I can not be positive of its origin) Cut from a scrap of slab that has been under my desk for some years...
30x27x8mm Slab...
Pre-form... Finished Cabochon...

I remember when mine looked like that. I found the hand rests to be awkward and replaced them with foam pipe insulation slipped over the edge of the trays. It gives me more room and cushions my hands as I work. Have fun with that bad boy...

Burro Creek Jasper is looking like the one. The collection was purchased near there and I have seen some pictures that make me think that is what is is. Thanks all for your input. What a great resource this venue is!

What an incredible thing to have to experience. Am sure your neighbors were very thankful for you. Is the studio reparable? Yes, get some well earned sleep. The studio will survive. I went into town yesterday and bought a new chainsaw. The one I have has served me well but is from a different geologic era. When we finally melt out, I will get the trees off and repair the damage. We have many dozens of trees down. A serious change in direction for the coming months.
I am grateful for the outcome of this. We will be better prepared next time.
The community, first responders, crisis teams and residents are going to debrief tonight at the community center. What worked, what didn't.
It has been good to re-open my etsy shop and ship some cabs again. Feels like things might flatten out. Thanks for the kind words. I was a volunteer firefighter and EMT for many years here on the river and cannot stop myself from going into gear when things go wrong. It is different doing it later in life.

I cut this out of a piece I acquired with the purchase of a closed rock shops stock. I am thinking lapis but it did not color my water when I was cutting it as all the other lapis I have cut has done. Any thoughts? Thanks

Two weeks ago tomorrow, it started snowing here in McKenzie Bridge, OR. By Monday evening there was 3+ feet of snow on the ground at our place. The temp was a consistent 34 F so the snow was wet and heavy. 15 trees came down on our driveway. Two fell on my wife's studio. It took the two of us seven hours to cut and dig our way out to the access road our driveway takes off of. The next 1.5 miles had in excess of 50 trees down. Power poles were snapped and all cell and land line service was cut.
I spent the next 6 days reaching out to, accessing and stabilizing elderly folks. Some I could not get to for 4 days. They were without heat, lights, water or contact with the outside. Needless to say they were happy to see the big Dodge truck with chains when I finally got to them. The truck full of water, camp stoves, flush water and more. Fema recovery teams, local fire dept's and search and rescue all joined in the effort. As far as I know we have lost none... DSL just came on... Finally getting some sleep.
