The American Agate/Jasper Index for Washington and Idaho is out! www.4shared.com/file/221879833/810dc669/Agate_Index_Vol_1.htmlUtah and Colorado www.4shared.com/file/224404408/51585e57/Agate_Index_Vol_2.htmlWyoming and Montana www.4shared.com/file/229956030/cc07189f/Agate_Index_Vol_3.htmlIdaho and Washington I hope you enjoy the Index as much as we enjoyed putting it together. It took a little longer as people kept on supplying us with such great pictures. A great big thanks for all those who helped. For those who have material that will fill in any gaps in the above indexes, you can now email material to agateindex@yahoo.com. Mel and I will be watching for the submissions as they come in. If you have trouble downloading, please let me know. Most people have no trouble, but some have run into issues. Also, any feedback would be greatly appreciated - this resource is being done for you. Anything you like/dislike or want changed or added. And if care to share the links with your local rock club - feel free. It's what this is here for. Thank you Lowell ps Sorry for the repeat post from the General Board, but not everyone looks everywhere. Thanks for understanding. I hope this is not annoying to see it in two places. Let me know if it is.

We are now requesting images of material from the great states of Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Maine for this thread. The images can be of rough, polished specimens, cabs, or tumbled stones. If you have any that you're willing to share, please post with a brief note on the region and its common name (if it has one.) Credit for the photo will be assigned to your name or online title (or not at all if that's your choice.)
Any material that fits under the heading agate/jasper is welcome to be posted here, even if it is from lesser known locations. Please post general locations along with the images.
There are many places that would be readily known to people outside the state. We'd love to see samples of these. If in doubt, POST!

I just downloaded the 2nd volume without a problem.
I did, however, hear from a person at my club meeting last night that they did have a problem downloading it.
Just to make sure - are you hitting the blue download button above the picture. After that happens, it tells you to wait and then a screen comes on for you to hit another button for the download.
Where in this process are you having the download fail?
(Also - I am looking into other file sharing websites to see if there is a better one.)
Also - Volume 3 out today - Washington/Idaho. It would have been out earlier but people kept updating Idaho with more pictures... That's a good problem to have, unlike the downloading...

Brent,
The short answer for Canada is "Yes". Long answer: What we want to do is pile through the states and get most of the index for that part done. Canada and Mexico are both on our agenda. Beyond that, I don't know. For the most part, I know that we want to do one geographical area well (a large one - North America). Our contacts are here, we know the material better than anywhere else, and it's North American material that we come across at sales, booths, shows, etc. (We = the collective group working on this project which includes anybody submitting material.) Mexico has poured a ton of material into the states over the years and some of it (a lot of it) can get confusing. Canada is less defined as an agate producing region. Yes, Canada has agate, but the material is less known and not seen as much as Mexican. Still, we view it as necessary to have it as a part of the index. So - when? At the rate we are moving, I would expect to see us post for Canada within a couple weeks. We need to tackle California first and travel through the plains and the east, and then expect Canada to come around. At this moment, I don't think we'll break Canada up like the United States. It'll all come crashing in at one time. I do know I want to revise and update our indexes before tackling Mexico. As we work through this, we're finding the best way to format and show credit.
I hope this answers your question!

I really like the whalebone. I've got a pile of it and I'm wondering if I have anything that dark.
How's the pitting in it?

So, I like the covington rotary tumblers for what they do. When I'm not impatient, I get great results. They last, they spin, they rumble.
What I have trouble with is getting the dang 6 lb barrel lids to close without leaking. It can take up to 5 times or more of screwing the &%^$#$ thing down, watching it roll and then produce a thin dribble of mess that snakes its way out to drip or gum up my shafts.
I've tightened it low, tightened it high, swapped lids, swapped barrels, and I'm not sure what exactly I'm doing wrong...but my blood pressure is rising. I almost lined the lid with vaseline just to seal it - but then I caught myself and said to the part of me still thinking "Never modify in anger...or desperation." But I've had a batch of 600 sitting idle while the lid drools every time I try to reset it...
So - advice? Suggestions? Are there any easier to use barrels that would fit on the dual 6 lb covington model tumbler?
If not - looking for a decent 6 lb vibe to handle the job...?

The whole lot is alotta fun to look at!
The variation in color in palm fiber is interesting to me. I know regular pet wood comes in all colors and styles, but the palm I'm used to seeing doesn't look anything like yours. Very nice.
Oh - Dig the crazy! (this from the obsessive compulsive king...)

Excellent batch of beauties!
I like your larger pieces, but I'm drawn to the odd-shaped lil babies that are crying for attention!
Great job,

Nice burro!
And I really like the dead cow stuff.... I have to ask - how'd that place get its name? Do you know? (I'm guessing dead bovine, but one can hope for an Alien Cattle Mutilation story... something with Feds in black suits and odd sounding two syllable names and helicopters seen traveling at night-inquiring minds want to know.)
Thanks for sharing.
***Disclaimer, the odd posting above does in reflect the true beliefs of elementary, but was in fact just an way of posting oddball stuff after having to be so careful with the Index. ***But I do want to know if there was a story about a dead cow. I like hamburger. ***Ask Sabre52 about his stinkinghorse jasper if interested in a different kind of thread...

I'm really liking your rounded little cabs. They remind of acorns - especially the tigereye.
(My wife had a jay shove an acorn down into one of her potted plants. After a while it sprouted. She salvaged it, replanted it, and now nurtures it. At present it is 15 feet high and I think she loves it more than me...--joking slightly.)
Keep the acorns coming!
