That is very pretty rockbrain! Are agates like that considered thundereggs? Not trying to be picky, just checking my understanding of 'thunderegg'.

rockbrain hypodactylus a S American agate like that is more like a nodule or a geode than a thunderegg, I think the idea was something with the softer rhyolite matrix as a challenge. This is a peoples choice non juried fun contest however so I think all entries are accepted. I've seen a round cab (winner) in a square can contest.

I agree. I’ve thought of the anonymous entry option as well but then we lose the entire months worth of chit-chat and also peoples stories about making the cab, issues they had, etc. I don’t think anonymity is more important than that and believe most people vote for the cab not the person. The formal classically judged contest has been tried, lasted one round. Was it 3 entries? For that to work you have to take photography out of it and mail the cabs to the judges, and they have to be judged by a predetermined set of objective rules, with a point system. Kinda boring to me.

A short time after I posted this I realized it probably wasn't considered a thunderegg. I can certainly pull it. I don't think there's much danger of me winning with this entry though.

At least I remembered correctly. I just went back and looked at the "curves" competition. I entered a similar cab. I think I entered it as an unknown and it's listed as a thunderegg agate.

I wouldn’t worry about it rockbrain you’ve created it, you’ve entered it, just leave it, It’s not hurting anything. I’d rather there be more entries than very few at all.

Well Rockoonz it's your last day to get one in the non boring, FCC Just sayin' Patty Again, EEK! I cut a bunch of White Fir Springs jasper eggs to find something that might work. Definitely some attractive ones, even with some turkey tail in the matrix, but without a day or so and a vacuum setup with resin that I don't have yet, they ain't happening. Also found a couple eggs at the Wickenburg show Sunday, one was pretty nice moss and the other so fantastic that it needs to be made into polished specimen slabs, not cabs. So I guess it's going to be the one I had picked out a couple weeks ago. How time flies. But I am having fun.

a vacuum setup with resin Tom threw out an idea the other day, but I haven't tried it yet- epoxy & kitchen vacuum bagger ( foodsaver) .
I like the sound of that . It just might work for smaller slabs/cabs.

Seen it done for wood on youtube videos, plus I want the vacuum bag setup for Sous Vide as well. Maybe this weekends estate sales? Still too late for today though. Guess I better get moving...

On the bright side for anyone else planning on competing in next months contest (since I had to come up with one more theme before I get beat this month) I chose another theme that’s open for more interpretation and doesn’t limit anyone to material. There will be a skill aspect, so you’re not getting off the hook that easy. So next month I don’t want to hear any of you complaining 😂 Jk.. to all this month and those taking it down to the wire, nice set of cabs thus far and good luck.

Well, not like I haven't ever stretched it out to the last day... So here it is, photos notwithstanding... A few slabs I considered for jollies. Some White fir springs jasper eggs and an unknown origin agate egg, feel free to ID if you can. Here's the slab, an end cut I acidentally found on my bench... Is it just me, or does this resemble anyones profile pic? And just because it's the best translucency pic I got. Preform on 2nd glue up to prevent matrix chipping Finished cab outdoors. In the light box with real camera And non backlit... This will be the contest pic Side view And another video...

I really like the cut you did on that and will 100% be stealing that design for future cabs.

Cool Rockoonz, love the glowing center. But if I'm correct, you'll need to get a different contest photo, as I believe you can't use a backlit one as an entry. Great to show us all the beauties it contains - but I think the rules say .......... Patty
