Not a face this time, but info about why I chose Fernwood as my name here. My G-Grandpa was William Fern. He went through a lot of hard times as a child. His parents died when he was 12 years old. He ran away from home, and joined the logging camp circuit. His siblings were given to other families. Within a couple years, he came back to the area his siblings were. He proved he had enough money to take his siblings with him. A couple were older than him at the time. They traveling the logging circuit in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Unfortunately, his oldest sister, Elizabeth, died in Minnesota shorty after giving birth to her first child. Her husband had joined her family on the logging circuit. Their son died within a month. In the late 1800’s my Grandpa had become a logging camp foreman in NW Wisconsin. He was also known as the best surveyor in the area. When the logging camp disbanded, the owner offered him 40 acres of land, whatever he wanted. He chose a parcel on a chain of lakes, near where his camp was. He purchased an additional 120 acres in the area. He later developed some of the the lake land into large lots. They were known as Fernwood Park. He later had to sell more land on the lake and that became Sunnyside Fernwood Park. In the 1970’s, my family needed to have a farm name for our registered Simmental beef cattle farm. I suggested Fernwood Acres. My present farm is known as Fernwood Acres II. So, this is why my nae here is Fernwood. I would love to hear any stories behind what your name here is what it is. Sharing a photo of William Fern’s surveyor compass, which I still have, complete with case. It even works great.

Oh, I later moved back to what was left of my G-Grandpas homestead. Moved from there to here in late 2015.

We bought some rocks today. Oh, and they came with a house... [ Tommy, did you guys seriously just buy this place? I love it! It looks like it's secluded from neighbors being too close! Super nice little ranch house! I'm sorry but you got some rocks AND a dog. I'm pretty sure that's 100% pure rockhound too, but I'm no expert.

Don't make me take you out behind the woodshed! If I only had a dollar for every time I've heard that in my life! LOL *And I'd be really well off if I had a dollar for every time I never had a preemptive warning! LOL Nice size little wood shed. Slap a slightly different color of paint on that beast and it'll be a beauty! Sorry to hijack the hijack, but you two made me think of this classic:

Oh come on, someone else has to be posting in here.... Since jasoninsd posted about Trigger, I figured I should probably show off a photo or two. That would be myself & Joel back in 2012. I'm holding Seamus & Simon (the failed foster dog) in front is Mikki & Otis, then Chunk (who was adopted as a rescue all the way from Fargo, ND!), and Dexter. All have passed on except Chunk & Dexter. Chunk lives with a good family friend & resembles a little white ghost, and Dexter (minus one eye) is still protecting our house from the wind, the leaves outside and the 3 very vicious cats. We also have 3 kids and 2 other dogs because hey, no one needs a quiet day. I am convinced Dexter is only alive at 14 (ish) because God hates me and Satan is afraid he'll take over.

Thank you for doing so much for our fur friends. Quiet days are overrated... mostly.

Thanks Tela! When I was a kid my mom would always say no to pets, almost any kind of pet, immediately. We still had a dog & a cat growing up though. My dad was the one who would just show up with a dog (he did this twice when I was a kid, and then again just last year at 72!). He gives me static about a lot of my life choices, but never animals which really made an impact on me. He actually was almost insulted when I had to gave one of the foster dogs to his new home. Dad was asking why I "wasn't keeping a perfectly good dog". I told him I'd need to adopt some of his money first and he clammed up pretty quick

Most of them were ones that wandered into our lives. Now I have a cat we got as stray kitten that was given birth to in our yard. We may be getting another stray if he can decide he wants to stay here. We're feeding him, but he's still shy- not feral, though. Beautiful cat. When he showed up he was close to death. We have nursed him back to health and now he shows up for a free meal. We don't have a yard big enough for a dog. It wouldn't be fair since I want a big dog. I love dogs, but they will have to wait.

Sweet Pups Mel. I love it, the "family photo" is the hubby & pups, not the kids .
Little dogs are under rated - they are not all yappers ! IMHO.

This was about 5 years before kids were even a thought, haha. I don't post their pictures online, hell that's probably the only picture of me I've put online in 25 years. Old habits! Of that photo, only 2 are yappers. Dexter (he's jack russell mixed with daschund far as we can tell, never again!!) and my buddy Simon. To be fair, Dexter! Is! Excited! By! Everything! Always! and Simon mostly just yapped if the cats were pestering him
