Tues. we're supposed to get that blast of cold. Granted it will seem like summer here compared to where some of you are. But, we aren't used to those really low temps. Some of the headlines are downright scary.
Post your temps here, so we can all commiserate.

Got down to -11 at our place in northwest Missouri last night. I can't complain as the last forcaste I saw was predicting -16.

Got down to -11 at our place in northwest Missouri last night. I can't complain as the last forcaste I saw was predicting -16. That's pretty damn cold. But, to be fair, I think -16 feels about the same as -11. At least to me. I'm allergic to the cold.
Hang in there.

One time when I was going to college in Houghton, Michigan, it got down to -35. People ask me what that felt like. I tell them I have no idea, because I wasn't crazy enough to go outside that day.

We hit -23 air temp last night. The winds weren't like they were the night before...where it got to -45 or -50 with the wind chills...so that was a "positive" on a "negative" day! LOL

33oF and misty over here in Oregon.
We just got our power back after 10 hours worth of outages due to ice, trees and downed powerlines.

I'm surprised there weren't more power outages out here with the winds we had the other night. I have power lines that run along the other side of the road in front of my house. When the temps get as cold as they are right now, I can hear the power lines singing. It's not an annoying noise...but they sure do make some noise. (Probably just groaning like the rest of us here! LOL)

Being a California kid, I can’t imagine these low temperatures being reported. I prefer 80 degrees, but also like the seasonal temperature changes. Lately it has been in the plus 40s and 50s. Very cold.

Wind chill is a media promoted statistic. Wind chill only has an effect on naked bodies and nobody is stupid enough to go outside nekked in cold weather. Rocks and trees are not affected by wind chill and neither am I. Just like the media invented heat index where they say it feels like 95 although the actual temp is 89. If you wear windproof clothing wind chill has no effect. The weather folks like to hype it up, doesn't do anybody any good.

Easy peasy +20°F here in Rochester. We've got some wind, but we've only had ~2 inches of snow here.

Wind Chill does affect how fast "exposed skin" can get frostbite.
Heat index sure feels like a real thing. Come to the Gulf Coast when the temp is at 90 degrees and the humidity is above 50 or 60%, even in the shade it will knock a person down if he is not acclimated. This summer we had temps close to 100 with over 50% humidity, it was almost too hot for me.

Wind chill represents more how fast an object can lose heat due to the air moving over the surface compared to static air.
Heat index is a real measure that can be used to determine when humans cannot naturally cool themselves and will overheat and may die.
At high temp plus high humidity your body cannot shed heat effectively by natural sweat evaporation because of the high humidity. Above the threshold a heat stroke, internal organ damage and possible death becomes more likely unless you find some other method to cool the body core temp.

We were at 12° last night, and I work night shift, both outside and in an un-insulated building. Restaurant prep and let me tell you handling cold vegetables for hours in those temps makes the hands unbearably cold. We, no joke, go INTO the refrigerator to get warmed up!🤣 I was definitely grateful we finally had a working hot water heater waiting at home after going almost 2 months without one!
