I don't think you're going there, but when I see this I immediately go to Frank Zappa Camarillo Brillo. "Is that a real poncho? I mean is that a Mexican poncho or is that a Sears poncho?" Of course it is on the same album as Montana. Like Coke and Coke Zero? Or Punk vs Kohl's Punk? I wasn't trying commenting on the stone or the cab - both are spectacular in my book. I was just teasing realrockhound - and I assumed jasoninsd was in on those antics. Based on the "Plume-tana" from the grand collection of grade A museum specimens owned by RRH (and pictured above.)

The first cab looks like petrified wood.

+1 to petrified wood. Could the second one be Unakite? The pattern looks like a paper map.

chris1956 I am not very familiar with Lake Michigan materials, but could the second one be a silicified sedimentary stone or micro breccia? Looks like small bits of brecciated jasper, in some type of sandy “muck”, with some layers having copper staining. No clue if Lake Michigan has much of those kinds of things, but looks like a copper variation of some of the things I find around here (pinks and browns of course)

I don't know what either is, but they both came out prefect! Little rippers!!!!! Thanks! The first cab looks like petrified wood. I was going to mention that it resembled pet in the post but forgot. +1 to petrified wood. Could the second one be Unakite? The pattern looks like a paper map. Funny you mention Unakite. In one of the recent Michigan Rocks videos Rob had a rock that was similar to this and he thought it might be Unakite. But it doesn't look like a granite to me but I could be wrong. chris1956 I am not very familiar with Lake Michigan materials, but could the second one be a silicified sedimentary stone or micro breccia? Looks like small bits of brecciated jasper, in some type of sandy “muck”, with some layers having copper staining. No clue if Lake Michigan has much of those kinds of things, but looks like a copper variation of some of the things I find around here (pinks and browns of course) You could be right. There is certainly a lot of copper in the UP and I think it shows up now and then in Lake Michigan in some rocks. chris1956 they both turned out great. I am a Michigan guy too but i dont recognize either but Lake Michigan has some awesome rocks . A+ Thanks! There are some awesome rocks. Too bad it is hard to find the same thing twice. But on the other hand, always something new. chris1956 , those are top notch. Great job on both. Thanks!

Hello friends! I skimmed through a few pages of the comments here but did not read every last word so if I missed something important and this doesn't qualify just lmk and ill make something else. That said, I've been trying to get into the habit of taking photos before cabbing and I managed to for this one. This is "mine run" imperial jasper, not the fancy royal stuff. I like this stuff a lot though as there is soo much variation between chunks of rough. It is available from thegemshop.com for $6.00/lb. Here is a screenshot. I encourage anyone who's interested to pick some up. Obviously better if you can go there in person to dig through the barrels! WI thought further adieu, here is my cab. I've been working on a new method using the nova discs as endplates which enables me to do low dome (almost flat) topped cabs. I have been trying to pay extra attention to a well defined girdle. Thanks for looking and good luck to everyone
