Hey, we don't mess around with the splash trays huh? Should be good. How come the small wheels? Or is that a really large motor?

hey doc..the motor is large...the titan is a 3/4 hp...this is 1 hp..plenty of torgue.
nope...no messing around with gaurds ;D....check this out doc ...the top of the gaurds are adjustable in and out...then hand rests are adjustable up and down...i did this to allow 6 or even 8 inch wheels....you should be able to use 4 thru 8 inch wheels with these gaurds and motor ;D.
the wheels are 4 inch because they were a gift from a member...they have 10 to 15 percent life left im told...kev.

very cool. I use 4 inch wheels I like them a lot. I 've tried the bigger ones, but feel I have a bit more flexibility with the smaller ones.

1hp, Tin Allen the tool guy would be proud!!! Yeah. Hey, that is some pretty good design work, why do you not make your own faceter also? I posted plans on this forum somewhere. Well, here it is again. It is identical to my Ultratec. www.gearloose.com/why.htmlIf you can build a supercharged cabbing low rider, a facter should be a piece of cake.

Lookin' real good, Kevin. Couple of things to think about:
I'd cut off all the plywood in front of the machine (looks like about 4"). Once you start reaching to get to the wheels, you'll see what I mean.
Looks like the splash guards can slide forwards or backwards for different size wheels. Or are the guards just centered on the shaft? That might affect where you bring the water lines through. Is the water gonna drip all the way down from the top of the guard to the wheels?
Are those pipe spacers in between the wheels? PVC works well too, not that you gotta worry about more weight with a one horse motor.
Once it's running, you'll see if you need any side guards (plexi?) to cut down on the spray.
You're so close to bein' done you gotta be itchin' to grind a rock, huh? Keep postin' pics as you finish it . . . she's lookin' goood!

It's looking really good Kev, you're on the home stretch now. Where did you get those control valves for the water? I could use one of them.

tweet yep...diamond wheels ;D...some life left..just for practice...cabs..sometime soon ;D...still worrking out the bugs...thats the reason for the mock up...ideas and tweeks by you all ;D.
rich you got me there....thats a few things im looking at as far as the water goes....i can have the water drip on the back of the wheels....the center of them....or the front right behind the stone being worked....just something i need to look at get advice on.
the gang valves have adjustments....im just not sure what wide open is versus anything else....can operate 1 valve at a time...and close other 5.
gaurds are adjustable in all directions....right now they are centered.....gaurds will have to be moved forward to accomadate larger wheels.
i definetly have to trim the base...this thing is much larger than i expected.
exactly what i wanted....questions...and or thoughts...kev.

Kev--- looking good ! ---- only thing I see is I don't think you have a plate on the motor side of things ( to use as a splash guard for the motor ) -- not that it would hurt anything as the slurry can't get in the motor ,but, it will sure make a mess all over it ! --- it could be a seperate piece ( L - shaped ) with a hole just bigger than the shaft --- something you could wipe or spray down and screwed to the plywood ------------------ dink, dink, done !! ;D --- cutting cabs now !

man i think you did a fantastic job on the grinder im bettin your gonna be real happy -- i also agree that less board in the front will save alot of pain in the back and neck haha and id think about inside shields also the genie i have has partial ones but i think they should have made the inside shield on each side alittle bigger the mud gets caked in the side of the motor and i never clean it after i use it and its gettin like cement hahaha guess i better clean it one of these days --- but nice job on the grinder kev

Hi Kev,
looks great a good job
I have a Question on the shafts
Is the shaft a full through shaft with sleeves or fixed on to the orignal shaft ?
Thanks

You've built a great machine! Nothing compares to a machine you build yourself, you can improve it while working and it will become better and better! Now get it worn!

Looks pretty sweet. I have 1 hp on my Star Diamond machine, plenty o' power. Is that grinder one of Jets' slow speed grinders, 1750 rpm?

Looking good Kev-- Just a few things to think about-- If you are using an overhead drip system your gonna need a drain valve in the pans- (I use a single brass airvalve with the airscrew replaced with a simple brass bleeder cap- I run a Silicon air line from the nozzle into a catch basin under my grinding desk- and let gravity drain my pan) Also your gonna want side splash guards- I just use clear report cover sheet duct taped into place (they flex and can be cut to any shape I need- plus I think a package of like 25 cost me 6 or 7 bucks- I'm still using the original 2!!!!) One other thing to think about is the water tightness of those gang valves- I think they are water tight- but make sure- I seem to remember having problems with some od them at a pet store I worked at- We were trying to use them for a water drip system (they are designed for air) and they kept leaking

Looks like your doing good and ready to go!I was wondering the same thing about the drainage or if you were planning to bail it out every so often.I will pass on another thought to you,on my old Highland park unit I got tired of filling the water supply all the time so I put a brick in the bucket and used a swamp cooler pump to recycle the water. The pump sitting on the brick to keep the grit from coming back up into the system.I also have built a "fence" around the base of the pump that was wrapped in some of the wifes old pantyhose,to ensure the grit stayed out.I do change the water when I go from coarse to fine sides.
