Hi! I've been holding out, I did these a few days ago but was too lazy to take pics. Anyhow, here's some different stuff....... This is a "wrap for hire" for one of the members of the Gem and Mineral Society. This is the rare "Covelite" (the real thing), I was almost scared to take it home. This stuff is really beautiful, and really hard to get a decent pic of....... Here's a piece of Lapis for the same guy. We decided that it would look better without any fancy stuff because of the shape and color, I was proud of this one........ Ocean jasper for another "wrap for hire", a friend of another member in the Gem and Mineral Society...... And last, this is one of my own cabs, and unknown from the local rock pile at the rock shop..... How did I do? ;D lol

You did terrible Randy - you should be ashamed of yourself for taking money for that shoddy work.... JUST KIDDING! LOL! They're very nice. I really like that lapis! I don't know what covelite is, I'll have to research that stuff.
Nate
Edit : I looked up that covelite. That's very cool!

Hey Randy,
These are absolutely amazing. I love the style of wrapping you do. If I may ask, how do you do the swirls? do you use your fingers, do you use your tools. What guage of wire do you use? Half-hard, or dead soft? Square? Sorry for so many questions, I've been practicing wire wrapping, but I'm not there yet.
This is one of my most favorite styles I've seen.
Thanks,
Deb ;D

Thanks! I do all of my swirls by hand except for the loops at the end of them, they're done with the round-nosed pliers. The square wire is 22 gauge dead-soft, and the half-round is 21 gauge half hard. I twist my own wire using a cordless drill. The style I've developed using a variation of techniques from different wrappers, some old and even some new. The best advice that I can give is to do 3-5 wraps a day if feasible. This is the same advice that I was given, and it worked! You can PM me anytime if you have any specific questions.

The lapis? Hmmmm, didn't really think about it. lol..... He said that it's "lapis lazuli", not sure if this makes a difference or not.

You did a great job, but then you probably already know that since your fan club has spoken (me included)..lol. That covelite is beautiful, I have only seen that in specimen form from mines in Butte, MT so have never seen a cab of it. Deb, check out the swirl tutorial done by Marie. It is at the top of the wire wrapping section. It helped me for sure. I use wooden dowels sometimes to make the swirls. Like Randy I use the round nose pliers for the small loop at the ends of the wires.

Wow! Top grade materials which perfectly match your wire wrapping level! My favorite is the Lapis.

Fantastic pendants. It seems like you have really mastered the art of wire wrapping. They all have great balance and composition. I love that Covelite. I would imagine that a dark, blue-metallic iridescent cab contrasting with silver wire might be a pain to photograph, lol.

dark, blue-metallic iridescent cab contrasting with silver wire Yep, that's exactly what I'm dealing with. In all of the pics that I took (light, no light, flash....) they all look black. with the flash it looked like crap. lol Toad- Ahhh, I see. This cab is really sorta thick so breaking it would take some work. Thanks y'all!!

I like 'em all. Your work is inspiring! Next thing you know, Randy will be tellingo us again that he's done the first wrap on someone else's cab for the first time, ever. But we know better! Hahaha. Edit: Regarding the pictures, I think a longer exposure in soft, natural light might help. You'd need a tripod. I'd suggest a half second or more, if you can get it up there. This should allow more light, and consequently more detail.

Thanks bud! I'm still learning the features on the camera, but it's digital. Is there a shutter on a digital camera? I can operate the heck out of my old Minolta 35mm, but that thing is obsolete it seems. Now that we're in the digital age, I'm surprised that anyone even sells camera film anymore. I'm gonna do some experimenting with a light box and different backgrounds, I'll get it right. ;D Oh-also, the guy and his wife picked up the wraps last night and are really happy with the work. They left me 5 more cabs to wrap

Wow Randy, you are really getting a clientele, even if it's only a guy and his wife. Word may get around you know...;-)

Goodness Randy, you are a wrapping fool. I'm lucky if I get one done a day when I have wire. Maybe I'll work up to two...lol. I'd run out of cabs even with all the cool ones I got if I did as many as you do. I know, practice practice practice...LOL. Diane
