I like how you planed the stairs. Gives you added open space underneath. Great thinking.

Hi Adrian,,, Everything must be going good because you still smile as you stand on the loft stairs! LOL ,,,,,,,,,a little story,,,,, My son came to install our central air conditioning some years ago and as he opened the door(hatch) to our attic(loft) he turned to me and just went"Hum",,,then he left without saying another word!He came back in about 1 hour with a set of stairs(like you have) and installed them!He didn't want to have to keep climbing up and down a ladder! LOLFirst things first! LOL He treats us VERY well so when he eats with us my wife(Nancy) makes sure she gives him an extra 1/2 potato! ;D
What will the upper ends of the basement stair rods connect to? And I forgot to ask if that is your puppy in the "flower box" picture?
Good luck with this coming weeks "adventure"! connrock

Thank you everyone. I'm glad you enjoy the main stair. You have a good son, Tom! WTG to him for helping you. He earns that half potato! That stair with rods is not the basement stair, but the main stair - from the ground floor to the first floor. You certainly HAVE to pay us a visit when the house is ready, to figure out better about the home plans. Anyway, those rods are connected at their upper ends to the margin of the concrete slab (the ceiling of the ground floor). Yep, that one is our puppy. Born last Christmas. Ain't he cute? Adrian

I'm really enjoying watching the step by step on your new home Adrian. It's really coming along well and looks like it's going to be really pretty when done. I've got that same kind of ladder to my loft and it's very handy.....Mel

Congratulations on your HUGE project! Exciting. Lots of light too, in your design! Keep us updated. How long do you think it will take before you're able to move in?

Hello, friends! Here is the progress made this week. It might not seem very much, but there were detail works, requiring time and care. Firstly, the drywall soffit light - octogonal shape - placed on the ceiling above what would be the dining place (in the living room): In the pic above, one can also see the drywall chamfering of the entrance from the hall to the living room. The floor leveling was also finished. Here is the main bathroom of the first floor, with the shower cabin made of brick. In the basement, the floor tiling work is in progress: Here is the main stair, after mounting the stainless steel rods to sustain each step (seems simple, but each step had to be brought to horisontal, lots of detail works as I said before) And some finishing works to the fence: Next week, the finishing works inside will continue and, if weather allows, some sewage work in the yard. Thank you for looking, Adrian

glad to see everything is coming along so well Adrian!! It just amazes me to see the difference is techniques being used used there as opposed to what I grew up with when I worked with my dad (General Mason Contractor). he was born in Italy ans I often wonder while looking through this thread how much of this did he grow with in Italy, and how much os progress since he left there to come tot the U.S. at age 16.

Hi Adrian, Buflete is a VERY cute dog and I hope you and your family enjoy her for many years. My powerball winnings: My wife and I won $30,000.00.Before we left the building where we got the money we had to pay the tax and were down to $17,000.00. We also had to pay a State income tax that was about another $2000.00+. We needed some work on out home badly and this money came at a good time for that. The money we spent was about $10,000.00. My wife and I took a trip out to Nevada and Arizona for 2-1/2 weeks which took care of most of the rest of the money! We won that money on August 27 2010 so I need another winning ticket! LOL I only buy about 4-5 tickets/year and bought 2 this past Wednesday.I didn't get even 1 number so I will try again in August!
In photo #3 I see such a beautiful hand crafted soffit that took a lot of work to make.I really like this design but I can't understand why you bought such a cheap light for it that I see hanging down??? LOL
As I see your home being built I can't help thinking what it would cost to have that same home built here in Connecticut. To build even your fence here would cost about 1/2 of what my home is worth! Very, very well built home Adrian!
See ya next week! connrock

Shotgunner, Our winnings was a fluke and I only buy a ticket a few times a year. I'm not much on gambling and I look at the Powerball, etc as just another "Poor mans tax"! Like anyone else,,,I'd love to win it but chances are pretty slim! connrock

Hello, friends! Here is the update for two weeks (last weekend I was out of town in a job trip so couldn't update the thread). Firstly, the entrance door is mounted: We also protected it to keep it clean during the future works: Here you can see the guidings for the small elevator leading to the loft: Now some tiling. They started the tiling work in the basement. Firstly the floor: And then the walls: Notice the slightly curved ceiling. This ceiling will be covered with a sort of slim , light brick, to add to the ancient cellar aspect. And, talking about tiling and finishing materials, here is the tiling and the parquet we chose for the living room and for the rest of the ground floor: RElated to the basement, we built a sort of "lid" above the stair to ease the access to the wall where the boiler would be installed. The "lid" under construction: Lid done, lowered: This "lid" can be lifted with a rope, as you see here: The lid, raised to allow the access to the basement: Some more finishing works in the inside: Now let's move in the yard to show you some outside works. Firstly, the plumbing works for the rain-watter: Some progress to the fence: And finally, a couple of pics with Buflete. Ain't he cute? Thank you for looking, Adrian

It's a pleasure to sit here in California and watch your home being built.
Must be a lot more so to the construction workers, and especially to you and your family.
