There ya go captbob, my wife kicked my azz for coating in this puppy in kaolin clay a few days ago whilst she was out glavanting. Local request, tiny middle section Steel at a 10 year low. Stocking every chance possible. Half of a 7000 pound load that came in last week. 42 inch bowls 3/8 inch thick and darn heavy. Target is a 5 year supply this year, price will double or triple within 5 years. Metal biz hard to screw up if you can buy low. Desirable to store outside for seasoning patina, no warehousing necessary. Pesky COPYCATS will have pricing issues when steel goes back up because they will probably not buy and stock for long term. James at war with 2 local COPYCATS. Preparing to render their flesh on the long haul. Love the competition. Fight on. These were lassoed with a chain to a tree and tralier pulled out from under them. Express unload. Noisy

I bet that trailer unload was noisy! Would have made a good video - hint for next load.
Being Mr. Critical, I wonder if when you tie the pits to a pallet if it might not be better to go around the 2x4 rather than the thin top slats.
I really like that taller middle section unit the best of those I've seen to date! You have to eat a small bowl to make it though don't you?
Regarding your competition, you remind me of the slogan for that Survivor TV show that the wife unit watches - Outwit Outplay Outlast
git 'em James!

That one guy showed up unannounced a year ago and I caught him out there snooping around looking at my proprietary tooling. Didn't think too much about it till I saw his face on Craig's List. He is the guy you mentioned near Atlanta that looked like my new competition. You want a(snuff) job ? Dude can be original and stay out of my business. i would never do that. The rope is lazy way. No complaints yet. They are so heavy and forklift rarely tilts them much. They stay put. Yep, ate a small bowl. Torchified the bottom out of it. Unload was seismic, dogs hiding under bed.

Heavy metal! Glad you're getting the chance to stock up while the price is right. Commodities trading beef. 5 years ago scrap was 15 cents/ pound, now like 4 cents. Guys were cashing in bulldozers and cars like crazy back then. Some made the money. I believe silver is low, silversmiths beware.

I am not sure how many iron ore mines there are in a 50 mile radius but they are all shut down but one. A friend who runs a large shovel there says it should stay open, they run 24/7 and put through 200000 tons of material a day 100000 per shift. He was bringing home pickup loads of the waste material for a french drain, I put a magnet to the waste and its magnetic. There is a huge mine that came on line in Austraila and one in Brazil. Most of the guys up here are being retrained as their unemployment is out. Steel should be cheap for a while
Oh bye the way nice gongs or wind chimes in the back round

Well, now ain't that the pits?!?!? Glad you could stock up on the steel while it's at a low. Seeing all that metal reminds me that I want to build my own meat smoker soooo bad! One more though and I might have to use it for heat in the dog house I would be sleeping in I'm down to four from a high of six, but have cooking chambers and fireboxes for two more in the barn. Shhhhhh!

So the mines are about all shut down. Scrap was leaving the country for years. Not sure what this country is thinking. must be environmental reasons. Selling scrap did not make sense. Remelting has much less environmental impact and cost than mining and processing. stupidity, absolute stupidity

World economy is officially in recession. USA economy more so. Real time tax numbers are dripping fast. Real unemployment ~10%.
Not sure how this effects steel. But silver is money in bad times. I guess steel can be too. Tonnage though, not poundage.
Anyways, look for $60 silver in 24 months. I paid off my house on silver 5 years ago. Looking to do it again!
If you can afford it. Take Jim's lead and stock up on your wires. Hold all scraps as long as you can.
Jim, I love your pits. Permutations and iterations seem endless. Firepit season coming soon. Can't wait to fire mine up!

DIGGING the handles! The cover handles look great.
Silver about half my buy in price *sigh* bought enough to sink a boat on the way up last time (could have been worse!) Guess I haven't lost anything if I don't sell it. Scott's $60 silver in 24 months would move an "I told you so" from her column to mine!

My stash wont sink a boat, but two strong men couldnt carry it. Just remember to cash out at or before a 3% dip after the top. That seems to signal a downturn. Study charts over the last few cycles.

I bought a load with one year of Mom's tax free gift money and put it back in her estate. Hoping for the 60 number. Silver has been a great long term investment as long as you bought low/sold high cyclically.

Built a speculative unit with a big engine under the hood yesterday. 64 inch rolled edge table with whopper 42 inch pit. Height is 22 inches. Sit back from this one. Sold a 48 inch pit to a 'healing facility' in Telluride Colorado yesterday. Talk about out in the middle of nowhere. Will probably take a hit on shipping. Attack of the flash rust, the result of not pre-rusting.

Glad you are moving some steel. put a grate over those and make an awesome Santa Maria tri tip griller, especially if you could come up with a way to make it adjustable height

Glad you are moving some steel. put a grate over those and make an awesome Santa Maria tri tip griller, especially if you could come up with a way to make it adjustable height Done a good many adjustable height grills Arlen, but never a Santa Maria. 1 My favorite is wrapping veggies and meats in foil with seasonings. 2 Pile in pit. 3 cover with sand. 4 Build fire on top. 5 come back later. later meaning before the coals are completely out, 1 to 4 hours later or longer. 6 Dump the pit 7 Harvest the goodies. Hard to burn and cooks slow that way. Unique flavors and textures. Very slow temp ramp up and temp ramp down. Zero management required.
